Location: Berlin or Tübingen, Germany (Hybrid; not fully remote)

Lead the engineering effort on EMERGENCY HQ, a successful live mobile title. You’ll set technical direction for features and live‑ops, keep the game fast and stable across devices, and help a small team deliver with quality and speed.

What you’ll do

  • Own the technical roadmap for live features, systems, and events; scope with Product and Design and deliver to clear milestones.
  • Lead engineers through mentoring, code reviews, and sensible standards; foster an ownership culture over micromanagement.
  • Architect and implement gameplay, meta, and content pipelines that scale for live‑ops (economy/progression hooks, events, reward systems).
  • Maintain performance and stability targets (frame time, memory, crash‑free rate); profile and optimise for a wide device range.
  • Own CI/CD and release health: build pipelines, automated checks, branch strategy, store submissions, hotfix flow.
  • Integrate and maintain analytics/telemetry, remote config/feature flags, A/B testing, MMP/attribution (incl. SKAN) and IAP flows.
  • Keep SDKs and platform requirements current (ad mediation, analytics, push, store policies for iOS/Android).
  • Partner with QA on test strategy (automation where sensible) and raise the quality bar for every release.

What you bring

  • 5+ years in software engineering with 2+ years shipping mobile games in Unity/C#; proven live‑ops experience.
  • Experience leading engineers or a squad; strong ownership, good planning, and clear communication.
  • Solid grasp of mobile performance (profilers, GC/memory, async), asset/Addressable‑style content pipelines, and reliability practices.
  • Comfort with CI/CD and version control (Git); release management and store submission know‑how.
  • Familiarity with analytics/event schemas, remote config, A/B testing, iOS privacy/SKAN, and IAP receipt/entitlement flows.
  • Professional English.

Nice to have

  • Collaboration experience with backend/services teams (APIs, cloud functions, feature flags).
  • Exposure to ad tech and mediation SDKs; interest in data‑informed experimentation.
  • A feel for systems/gameplay design and player experience.

Why 16 Tons Entertainment

  • Stability & success: EMERGENCY HQ has been live for 7 years and 2025 is our best year yet.
  • Original game, great team: we build, own, and operate our own IP with a tight, collaborative crew.
  • Ownership over micromanagement: we set clear goals and give you responsibility and autonomy to deliver results—support when you need it, freedom when you don’t.
  • Great office in a vibrant Berlin neighbourhood (Friedrichshain) with plenty of home office possible.
