About the role

As a Senior Staff Engineer, your primary mission is to drive engineering excellence across the organization. You'll elevate how we design, build, and operate systems—raising the bar on quality, security, and maintainability.

You are a senior individual contributor who combines deep technical expertise with broad influence across teams. You lead by example—guiding implementation decisions, mentoring engineers and Tech Leads, and shaping the practices that define how we work.

Your main responsibilities

• Drive engineering excellence by establishing and evolving technical standards, patterns, and practices across teams.
• Design and implement secure, scalable backend systems in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
• Mentor engineers and Tech Leads on system design, performance, and secure-by-default practices.
• Champion observability, testability, and operational resilience—including incident response and root cause analysis.
• Pioneer our adoption of AI-assisted development (Claude Code), helping shape best practices for integrating these tools into engineering workflows.

Our ideal candidate

• 10+ years work experience in System Engineering or similar.
• Experience designing complex backend systems in regulated environments.
• Strong grasp of system performance, observability, and secure software development.
• Proven track record building resilient, fault-tolerant systems.
• Proven mentorship and cross-team influence on technical decisions.
• Expertise in Java (Quarkus) or Node.js (NestJS), with willingness to learn the other.
• Bonus if you have experience with Domain-Driven Design, Clean Architecture, Test-Driven Development, and Event-Driven Architecture.
