Are you interested in developing amazing products for end users, improving image quality through ISP tuning and validation, and having your fingerprint on Amazon Ring cameras? If so, then please read on.
As a System Development Engineer focused on ISP tuning and Image Quality validation, you would be working together with firmware developers, scientists, and various stakeholders on different sites. When you are successful, end users will have Ring cameras to capture every moment with stunning colors and great details, no matter whether it is day or night.
In this work, you will understand how an image is created from sensor to full color image and how the Image Signal Processing pipeline transforms raw sensor data into beautiful imagery. You will tune ISP parameters, validate image quality across diverse conditions, and optimize the imaging pipeline to deliver exceptional user experiences.
This work requires strong analytical skills, deep understanding of ISP algorithms, and expertise in image quality assessment methodologies. More than that, it requires the capability to innovate solutions that work within given hardware constraints. It is essential to have camera system understanding and be able to learn from others. You should have genuine interest to use and keep adopting the latest IQ tools for tuning, validation, and testing.
In this position, you will work with the latest and greatest technologies in the camera and embedded industry. Building the architecture for the future while delivering devices to the market is the key to success in the long run.
In Tampere, we have experts in most areas sitting in the very same office; you can just go and visit them and maybe sketch your idea on paper or whiteboard. The expert network at Amazon Ring is also there to ensure success in your work.
If you feel this is for you, please apply now.
Key job responsibilities
As a System Development Engineer focused on ISP tuning and Image Quality validation, your output directly impacts millions of devices. You need to be able to optimize all ISP parameters to create the best possible image across diverse lighting conditions and scenarios. This means you need to be familiar with ISP algorithms (demosaicing, noise reduction, sharpening, tone mapping, color correction), camera control algorithms, and how different components in the imaging system interact with each other.
There is always something that can be improved in image quality; your task is to figure out how to do it - this requires skills to innovate solutions and communicate with others. A solution can be developing new tuning methodologies, implementing automated validation frameworks, optimizing ISP parameters for specific use cases, or creating comprehensive test protocols; it is essential that whatever you do it serves a purpose.
If you have experience with objective and subjective image quality metrics, automated testing frameworks, statistical analysis, or hardware validation processes, please do mention them in your resume.
You will work with hardware and prototype devices on Amazon Tampere premises. However we have our flexible culture where eventually results matter.
A day in the life
You are leading the ISP tuning effort for a new Ring camera product. You start by analyzing the baseline image quality from the initial hardware build, identifying key areas for improvement in color accuracy, noise performance, and dynamic range across different lighting conditions.
Working closely with the IQ team and firmware engineers, you develop a comprehensive tuning plan that prioritizes the most impactful ISP parameters. You systematically optimize exposure control, white balance, color correction matrices, and noise reduction settings while validating improvements through both objective metrics and subjective assessments.
As the product progresses through development phases, you execute validation campaigns to ensure image quality meets specifications. You discover that edge cases in low-light scenarios aren't adequately covered by existing test protocols, so you design and implement new automated tests that improve coverage for challenging lighting conditions. These tests become part of the standard validation suite, benefiting future products.
Throughout the day, you collaborate with imaging experts to root-cause quality issues, present tuning progress to stakeholders, and document your methodologies so the team can leverage your work across the product portfolio.
