Senior Engineer – Technical Office

About the Role

Dublin Bus is seeking an experienced Senior Engineer (Technical Office) to lead the technical governance of our vehicle fleet and play a critical role in shaping the future of public transport in Dublin.


This is a leadership position responsible for fleet safety, reliability, compliance, technical standards, and continuous improvement, while leading a high-performing Technical Office team and overseeing engineering training across the organisation.


You will work closely with internal stakeholders, trade unions, regulators, and global vehicle manufacturers to ensure our fleet is safe, efficient, compliant, and future-ready.


Key Responsibilities

Fleet Technical Leadership

  • Act as the technical authority for fleet maintenance, performance, and standards
  • Lead investigation and resolution of complex technical issues in partnership with OEMs and suppliers
  • Oversee warranty strategies and claims across the fleet
  • Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, EU Whole Vehicle Type Approval, and NTA requirements


Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure safe operation of the fleet through robust maintenance procedures
  • Lead investigations into serious vehicle safety incidents and implement recommendations
  • Make technical recommendations on return-to-service following incidents
  • Maintain full compliance with RSA and internal Safety Management Systems


People & Team Leadership

  • Lead, develop, and manage the Technical Office team
  • Build a positive, inclusive, high-performance culture
  • Ensure the team remains current with emerging vehicle technologies


Training & Capability Development

  • Manage the Technical Training Centre
  • Ensure depot engineering staff are trained in vehicle service and maintenance procedures
  • Support driver training on vehicle-related topics
  • Work closely with the Apprenticeship Programme to ensure future engineering capability


Continuous Improvement & Standards

  • Drive Lean / Six Sigma continuous improvement initiatives
  • Develop, implement, and maintain SOPs, KPIs, and engineering standards
  • Maintain the ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS)


Strategy & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Develop and maintain a 3-year Technical Office strategic plan
  • Support major engineering projects and long-term organisational plans
  • Build strong relationships with manufacturers, suppliers, regulators, and CIÉ Group stakeholders


What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • Level 8 or 9 NFQ qualification in a relevant Engineering discipline
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle design and maintenance
  • Proven experience leading and managing engineering teams
  • Demonstrated track record of continuous improvement
  • Experience managing complex internal and external stakeholders


Desirable

  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification
  • Experience with modern vehicle technologies (e.g. low-emission or electric fleets)
  • Background in a safety-critical or highly regulated environment
