Are you a process-obsessed problem solver who loves to bridge the gap between physical operations and digital efficiency?

GenePlanet, an EU-based biotech company and a global leader in preventive genetic tests—including NIPT, cancer screening, and lifestyle DNA tests—is looking for a Lab Process & Automation Specialist. With a presence in 35+ markets and a world-class next-gen DNA sequencing lab, we are looking for someone to step into the heart of our operations and revolutionize how we work.

The Role

In this position, you won’t just be sitting behind a desk. You will be a "process hacker" within our state-of-the-art laboratory. You will spend time shadowing our lab personnel, learning the intricacies of DNA sequencing, and identifying exactly where friction exists. Your goal is to digitize the physical, automate the repetitive, and streamline the complex.

This role is perfect for someone who is dissatisfied with "that’s just how we’ve always done it" and has the technical skills to actually change it.

Key Responsibilities

  • Shadow & Analyze: Spend time on-site with lab personnel to understand their daily workflows, identifying bottlenecks, manual data entry points, and process inefficiencies.
  • Process Mapping: Translate complex lab procedures into clear, logical digital workflows and identify what should be automated, removed, or improved.
  • Software Integration: Bridge the gap between lab hardware and our software ecosystem, ensuring data flows seamlessly from the "wet lab" to our digital platforms.
  • Rapid Automation: Use "no-code/low-code" tools (Make, Zapier, n8n) and simple custom scripts to automate data transfers, notifications, and reporting.
  • Deep-Dive Problem Solving: Root-cause analysis of why errors occur in the process and implementing structural changes to prevent them.
  • Iterative Optimization: Build MVPs of new workflow solutions, test them in the live lab environment, and iterate based on real-world feedback from scientists.
  • Data-Driven Optimization: Contribute to the analytics process, using a data-driven approach to ensure all process changes result in tangible improvements.

Requirements

  • The Hacker Mindset: A natural curiosity for how things work and a passion for making them faster and better.
  • AI Enthusiasm & Fluency: You are excited by the AI field, follow it closely, and use AI tools daily to enhance your own productivity and problem-solving.
  • Process Expertise: Proven experience in streamlining workflows—whether in manufacturing, logistics, software, or lab environments.
  • Technical Literacy: Strong computer knowledge with the ability to connect apps via APIs and automation platforms (e.g., Make, Zapier, n8n).
  • Foundational Coding: Ability to write simple code/scripts (Python, JavaScript, or similar) to handle data transformations or custom integrations.
  • Analytical Thinking: A data-driven approach to problems; you look for evidence and metrics to prove that a process change actually works.
  • Communication: Ability to listen to lab staff (who may not be "techies") and translate their needs into technical requirements.
  • Language: Fluency in English.
  • Availability: Ability to work on-site in Zagreb at least 2 days per week. The remaining days can be worked from our offices in Ljubljana or Maribor, or from Zagreb.

Pluses

  • Biotech Exposure: Previous experience working in a laboratory or healthcare setting (understanding LIMS or NGS workflows is a massive advantage).
  • Data Visualization: Experience using tools like PowerBI, Tableau, or Grafana to visualize process performance.
  • Foundational Coding: Basic scripting skills (Python, JavaScript, etc.), API debugging, or experience with simple serverless apps.
  • Advanced AI Expertise: Experience creating standalone AI programs, building custom RAG pipelines, or fine-tuning models.

What We Offer

  • A chance to work at the forefront of genetic technology and personalized medicine.
  • A fast-paced, "startup-style" environment within a stable, growing company.
  • The opportunity to see the immediate impact of your work on human health outcomes.
  • Flexible working arrangements between Croatia and Slovenia.
