About Ownright

Ownright is on a mission to make real estate law simple. In Canada, most property transactions require a lawyer, but the experience hasn’t evolved in decades. We’re changing that. As a product designer, you’ll help build a digital-first legal service that delivers clarity, transparency, and efficiency through a proprietary platform and experienced legal team.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for an ambitious Product Designer with 2+ years of experience to join our growing team and help shape the future of real estate law. As an early design hire, you’ll own features across our core platforms including our client-facing app, internal legal software, and partner experiences. You’ll collaborate closely with product, engineering, legal, and customer success teams to design experiences that are elegant, intuitive, and thoughtfully crafted.

This is a rare opportunity to join a venture-backed startup early and help shape both our product and design practice from the ground up. You’ll have real ownership, be supported by a collaborative and experienced team, and have a direct impact on the lives of clients navigating one of the most important transactions of their lives.

What You’ll Do

  • Design end-to-end features across our web-based apps - client tools, internal software, and partner experiences
  • Contribute to product strategy by participating in discovery and shaping how we solve complex legal workflows
  • Contribute to our design system and documentation in Figma
  • Create high-quality designs - user flows, mockups, prototypes, and developer-ready handoff specs
  • Own and influence our visual language, with occasional collaboration with marketing and brand design
  • Engage cross-functionally with engineering, legal, client success, and growth team
  • Communicate clearly about design trade-offs and rationale across disciplines

Who You Are

  • Have 2+ years of product design experience
  • Are self-directed and comfortable owning design projects independently from exploration, research, user testing to developer handoff
  • Have ample experience creating complex prototypes and contributing to design systems within Figma
  • Have shipped real features and can share how you contributed from start to finish
  • Enjoy shaping solutions in ambiguous or evolving spaces
  • Are a systems thinker who simplifies complexity with clean UX
  • Care deeply about visual polish, usability, and craft
  • Communicate your ideas effectively, whether in Figma, Slack, Loom, or in-person

Nice to Have

  • Experience designing for both B2C apps and operational tools
  • Experience working in a fast-paced or startup environment
  • Familiarity with legal, real estate, or regulated environments
  • Experience with advanced Figma tools such as variables
  • Able to rapidly create visuals and prototypes to support team alignment
  • Working knowledge of technical considerations and constraints to collaborate smoothly with engineering team members
  • Keep up to date with emerging design trends, Figma features, and other tools

What We Offer

  • 🎯 Early team member at a venture-backed startup
  • đź’¸ Competitive salary + Employee Stock Option Plan (ESOP)
  • 🏥 Full benefits package
  • 🌴 3 weeks paid vacation, plus bank holidays and annual holiday shutdown
  • 🏡 Hybrid work model (2 days WFH + 3 days in downtown Toronto office)
  • 👩‍💻 6 day work from anywhere entitlement (up to a maximum of 2 full weeks per calendar year)
