About the Role
You'll need to be an expert in low-level optimisation; this is not a Linux admin role.
Responsibilities
- You will design, build, and maintain a highly reliable, high-performance Linux-based infrastructure to support blockchain initiatives for a leading proprietary trading firm.
- You will engineer validator environments and distributed systems with a focus on low-latency performance, security, and scalability.
- You will take ownership of Linux systems across bare-metal and cloud deployments, ensuring high availability of validators, RPC nodes, and related services.
- You will enhance observability and reliability by developing monitoring, alerting, and diagnostic systems such as Prometheus and Alertmanager tailored for picosecond-grade blockchain infrastructure.
- You will harden and secure infrastructure, including server security, key management, intrusion detection, and best practices for mission-critical environments.
- You will work alongside software engineers and researchers on cutting-edge technologies, including consensus algorithms, distributed systems, and cryptography, to support complex workloads.
- You will contribute to cross-functional initiatives and external collaborations that directly support the firm’s trading operations.
- You will support a globally distributed team, ensuring near-zero downtime and operational excellence.
- You will continuously evaluate and integrate emerging technologies in Linux systems and the blockchain ecosystem.
Qualifications
- You will need deep expertise in Linux systems engineering, including kernel-level understanding, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
- You will need experience building and supporting mission-critical infrastructure in latency-sensitive or trading environments.
- You will need a strong background in container orchestration and automation with tools such as Kubernetes, Terraform, Ansible, and Salt.
- You will need knowledge of networking fundamentals, including low-latency networking, routing, firewalls, and load balancing, with experience across both bare-metal and cloud platforms.
- You will need strong monitoring and observability skills, including the ability to build robust alerting systems.
- You will need proficiency in Bash scripting and at least one programming language, with Python, Golang, or Rust preferred.
- You will need the ability to reason about security and reliability at scale, with experience implementing hardened infrastructure.
- You will need a proven track record of building and maintaining complex distributed systems in production.
- You will benefit from prior exposure to blockchain or distributed ledger technology; however, a passion for systems engineering and an eagerness to learn are more important.
- You will need reliable, predictable availability and a collaborative, hands-on approach.
