Java Developer – Java Upgrade Project (Java 8 → 17/21)

Context

For an organisation in the insurance and financial services sector, we are looking for an experienced Java Developer to support a project-specific Java upgrade.

The assignment focuses on upgrading existing enterprise applications from Java 8 to Java 17 or Java 21, ensuring stability, performance, and compliance with modern Java standards.

Responsibilities

• Analyse existing Java 8 applications and identify upgrade impacts
• Migrate and refactor codebases to Java 17 or Java 21
• Resolve compatibility issues (libraries, frameworks, deprecated APIs)
• Ensure application stability through testing and bug fixing
• Collaborate with architects, developers, and functional teams
• Document changes and provide technical input during the upgrade process

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong hands-on experience with Java (Java 8 and higher)
• Proven experience with Java upgrades (8 → 17 and/or 21)
• Solid understanding of JVM changes, modularity, and performance improvements
• Experience with enterprise Java applications (Spring, Maven/Gradle, etc.)
• Familiarity with testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines
• Experience in insurance, banking, or financial services is a strong plus

Language & Location

• Dutch is mandatory (spoken and written)
• Based in or able to work in Antwerp (hybrid setup possible)
