Business Analyst - Freelance - Brussels


As a Business Analyst, you act as the bridge between business stakeholders and IT teams, translating business needs into effective, sustainable solutions. You analyse processes, define requirements, and support system implementations that improve operational efficiency and enable strategic objectives. You bring a continuous improvement mindset, constructively challenge assumptions, and collaborate closely with stakeholders to design future ready processes and solutions.


Key Responsibilities

Business & Process Analysis

  • Analyse and model end-to-end business processes using BPMN, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives.
  • Distinguish clearly between business processes and application processes.
  • Review and improve existing processes, working closely with business architects to strengthen the business architecture and capabilities.


Information Modelling

  • Model and structure business information using UML class diagrams.
  • Define, refine, and challenge business concepts to ensure clarity, consistency, and alignment across systems.
  • Understand and manage the relationship between capabilities, information ownership, and information models.


Requirements Management

  • Elicit, analyse, prioritise, and document functional and non-functional requirements in an Agile environment.
  • Facilitate workshops, refine user stories, and collaborate closely with stakeholders and development teams.
  • Work with the Product Owner to define and maintain a high-quality backlog.


Solution Design & Validation

  • Collaborate with Solution Architects to ensure solutions meet business needs while remaining scalable and future-proof.
  • Safeguard business architecture principles throughout solution design and implementation.


Testing & Quality Assurance

  • Define and support test cases based on user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Participate in business acceptance testing, sprint reviews, and defect triage.
  • Promote early and continuous testing, ensuring traceability between requirements and test coverage.


Documentation

  • Produce clear, structured, and accurate documentation for processes, requirements, and solutions.
  • Continuously improve documentation standards and practices to support long-term maintainability and collaboration.


Leadership & Ownership

  • Take ownership of business needs from analysis through implementation.
  • Proactively propose improvements, drive change, and ensure solutions deliver tangible business value.


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5–8 years of experience in business analysis and requirements management.
  • Strong knowledge of business analysis methodologies (BABOK, BPMN, UML).
  • Experience working in Agile environments.
  • Knowledge of Archimate is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and either French or Dutch (with good knowledge of the other language).
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to challenge assumptions constructively.
