Sinch is pioneering the way the world communicates. More than 150,000 businesses-including Google, Uber, PayPal, Visa, Tinder, and many others-rely on Sinch's Customer Communications Cloud to power engaging customer experiences through mobile messaging, voice and email. Whether you need to verify users or craft omnichannel campaigns, Sinch makes it easy. Our AI-infused Super Network, APIs, and applications ensure you can connect with your customers reliably and securely, at every step of their journey.
At Sinch we "Dream Big", "Win Together", "Keep it simple", and "Make it Happen". These values are our foundation!
The API Connectivity team is the front door to the APIs that power Sinch's Build product portfolio. We are responsible for the critical infrastructure that securely and reliably handles our customers' API requests. Our core mission is to build and operate a world-class API Gateway, manage customer API credentials, and ensure a consistent, reliable, and seamless experience for developers using our services. This team is central to shaping how both our customers and internal development teams interact with our central platform.
As our new Software Engineer, you will:
Play a key role in helping Sinch's customers easily make use of our APIs - simplifying how they integrate and operate their own solutions.
Design, build, test, operate, and maintain a highly available and scalable API gateway, as well as services and UIs to manage the entire lifecycle of customer API credentials.
Enforce security policies, including authentication and authorization, at the edge of our platform.
Define and manage rate-limiting, traffic shaping, and routing rules to ensure platform stability.
Contribute to tools, documentation, and support for internal product development teams, simplifying how other teams build on our central platform capabilities.
Own features through the full development lifecycle, from ideation to operation, in a "you build it, you run it" environment, including troubleshooting and resolving complex issues related to API connectivity, latency, and security.
Work within a cross-functional team (engineering, product and design) to build platform solutions in collaboration with the wider Sinch organisation.
You are a product-minded engineer who is passionate about building robust, scalable, and secure infrastructure that empowers developers and delights customers. You have a strong sense of ownership and thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment where your work has a big impact. You should have:
Professional experience building and operating high-throughput, low-latency production backend systems.
A strong interest in the system design challenges when creating highly available, distributed systems and an understanding of what it takes to build and operate critical infrastructure.
Strong programming skills in languages, frameworks and technologies like Java, Kotlin, Spring, Quarkus, Postgres, Redis and Kafka.
Hands-on experience with cloud-native services (especially within AWS) and container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
Experience with performance tuning and observability tools (e.g., Grafana, Datadog).
It is merited if you have:
Previously worked at a strong product-focused company, with an understanding of how engineering contributes to building great customer experiences.
Experience with Ingress Gateway or Service Mesh technologies (e.g., Istio, Envoy).
Frontend development experience (e.g., Typescript, React) and the ability to work fullstack.
Familiarity with API security standards like OAuth2 and OpenID Connect (OIDC).
Experience with performance, load, and reliability testing for distributed systems.
We are committed to ensuring a recruitment process that is fair, objective, consistent, and inclusive. Our approach includes structured, competency-based interviews designed to evaluate your skills, experience, and qualifications relevant to the role. At times, we may include a data-driven assessment to enhance our hiring success and identify candidates likely to excel.
We believe in a two-way process and encourage you to ask questions throughout the journey. If this role isn't what you're looking for, please explore the other opportunities listed on our career page. No matter who you are, we hope you find an exciting path forward - hopefully with us!
