Student, Business Intelligence/ Data Analyst – Hybrid
The Opportunity
The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is seeking a Summer Student to join our dynamic Information Management and Technology (IMT) Branch. As part of the IMT team, you’ll contribute to managing the full lifecycle of the technology and information systems that are essential to the AER’s operations. Our branch oversees all aspects of Information Technology and Information Management, ensuring the tools and processes that support the organization remain innovative, reliable, and effective.
As a Student BI/Data Analyst, you will have the opportunity to learn about enterprise data architecture, data collection and integration, analytics and reporting, data management and quality, as well as the technology and tools being used to support AER’s data strategy. Your contributions will play a key role in preparing data for effective use and dissemination throughout the organization.

What your day-to-day will look like:
- Collaborate with other Data Analysts and the Data Architect on the Production Support team to address the data needs of the organization.
- Identify and research data-related issues for data owners and thoroughly review data quality by record and case.
- Assist in the maintenance of corporate relational databases and data solutions.
- Analyze the impact of data on business systems, decision-making, and analytics within the corporate environment.
- Transform and model target-state data repositories to meet business requirements for analysis, reporting, and dissemination.
- Prepare documentation for data flows, data lineage, and data modeling as required.
- Currently enrolled in your first or second year of a Bachelor’s program in Computer Science or a related field.
- Relevant coursework in data analysis, data engineering, data integration, or data analytics is preferred.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Proof of enrollment in a registered post-secondary institution including enrollment in the semester following the work term, or enrollment in a registered co-op program will be a condition of hire.

- Edmonton: Hybrid work - employees will work in office two days per week.
- All other locations: Hybrid work - employees may work remotely up to five days per calendar month, with a limit of two remote days per week.
