NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence is looking for Data Scientist who has extensive experience in social science, fluency in AI and is eager to work on social science problems and run experiments.


The Role & Environment: The Data Scientist will work within the Technical and Scientific Development Branch. The main functions of the branch are to develop audience characterization tools; analyze the digital information environment, including social media platforms; detect foreign information manipulation and interference; generate actionable recommendations for NATO Allies and NATO structures; support research on human behavior and resilience; process data flows; and establish and maintain networks among subject-matter experts.


Key responsibilities:

  • Oversee the research of social media, big data analyses, and projects within the strategic communication context.
  • Turn data into information and information into insight.
  • Develop and implement data collection systems that optimize efficiency and quality of data.
  • Identify, analyze and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets.
  • Design and implement advanced data analysis methods, develop scalable tools and predictive models, and integrate them into research workflows to support evidence-based decision-making and strategic analysis.
  • Manage and plan project timelines and budgets.
  • Support the delivery of the Centre’s courses and seminars.


Key requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in computer science or related discipline.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in programming, data science, machine learning, and related areas.
  • Technical expertise in data models, database design development, data mining segmentation techniques.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience in conducting research projects on an international level.
  • Fluency in Python computer languages.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Advanced English language proficiency (C1/C2 level), as it is the primary working language of the organization.
