Role:

We’re looking for high potential junior Backend and Full Stack Engineers to join our Platform team, working closely with product, design, mobile, and machine learning team members to design & build experiences that re-define in-store shopping. You'll help build engaging & intuitive app experiences and the event-driven & real-time backend services that power them. You’ll work across the entire technology stack, real-time data flows and APIs on a backend designed for scale & flexibility.

We have built an experienced founding team and our focus now is on finding talented engineers of all experience levels to contribute to our ambitious goals for the platform in 2026.

Responsibilities:

• Contribute to distributed, event-driven backend services connecting our web experience with information from remote devices and external data sources.
• Build and document APIs (OpenAPI/AsyncAPI) for mobile and web clients
• Model and manage structured and semi-structured data across storage layers
• Integrate AI-driven personalisation and real-time insights into user flows
• Contribute to overall system design: service boundaries, data ownership, scaling, and observability

Essential Qualifications:

Successful junior candidates will be able to evidence a high level of aptitude and curiosity in their education and/or early career.

Nice to Haves:

We do not expect candidates to have experience with any of our existing stack, but any of the following are a bonus:

• Built modern full-stack applications with focus on backend (e.g. Python, Java, Go)
• Worked with a variety of storage technologies (e.g. Postgres, Mongo, Redis, Object)
• Experience with async and bi-directional communication protocols and patterns (e.g. WebSockets, SSE)
• Designed and implemented event-driven distributed systems (e.g. Kafka/Pulsar, RabbitMQ, MQTT, or similar)
• Experience with container orchestration and service containerisation (Kubernetes, Docker)
• Built and deployed services on any major cloud providers' services (Azure, GCP, AWS)
• AI-Native development: use AI tools such as CoPilot or Cursor a collaborator and accelerator of development.
• Experience in frontend or Android development (e.g. Javascript, Typescript, React.js, Kotlin)
