Role Description

Pumpkin is looking for a Product Designer (Contract) to join our Growth Pack. In this role, you will be part of a tight-knit, high-velocity pod working alongside a Product Manager and Engineers. Your mission: optimize our enrollment funnel and create a compelling, high-converting experience for prospective pet parents. You are a designer who doesn't just want to make things look pretty; you want your designs to move the needle. You are comfortable with ambiguity, enjoy the pace of a "test-and-learn" environment, and pride yourself on being a collaborative partner to your cross-functional teammates. If you are data-curious, craft-obsessed, highly collaborative and adaptive, and thrive in a fast-moving, pet-loving team– we'd love to meet you.

Responsabilities

  • Experimentation Cycle: Partner with Product Management to conceptualize and design A/B tests, ranging from minor UX optimizations to bold net-new concepts, for our quote/purchase flows.
  • End-to-End Execution: Take ownership of the whole design process—from initial wireframes and user flows to high-fidelity UI and interactive prototypes
  • Collaborative Strategy: Partner closely with the Product Manager and Engineers to identify friction points in the funnel and design solutions that drive Conversion Rate (CVR) and other key performance metrics (Drop-off, LTV, etc.)
  • Data-Driven Design: Leverage data insights to validate hypotheses and help inform the next design iteration
  • Developer Handoff & QA: Maintain high standards and ensure seamless implementation by providing clear documentation, annotations, and assets to engineers, and conducting design QA of all before launch
  • Work fast. Have fun. Love pets.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 3+ years of professional experience in Product Design, specifically focused on UX and UI for digital products.
  • Growth Mindset: Proven track record of optimizing conversion funnels and using A/B testing methodologies to measure success.
  • Design Craft: Mastery of Figma and a deep understanding of responsive design, grid systems, etc.
  • System Thinking: Experience working with and contributing to component libraries to ensure visual consistency and speed.
  • Analytical Literacy: Familiarity with Google Analytics (or similar tools) to track user behavior and evaluate experiment performance.
  • Scrappy & Adaptive: Ability to "right-size" your design approach—knowing when to build a quick-and-dirty mockup for a 2-day test versus a polished system for a core feature.
  • Customer Empathy: A genuine curiosity about the "pet parent" mindset, translating emotional needs into functional, trustworthy interfaces.

Key Beneficial Skills

As a key member of the Growth Pack, your "extra" skills help you and your team shorten the time between an insight, an idea, and a live test.

  • Advanced Prototyping & Motion: Proficiency in Figma and other prototyping tools to demonstrate complex interactions. Ability to use subtle motion design to guide users through the funnel and provide delightful feedback.
  • Rapid Iteration via Low-Code/No-Code Tools: Experience using tools like Heyflow, Unbounce, or Optimizely to build and launch landing pages or experiments independently, bypassing traditional engineering bottlenecks.
  • Front-End Foundations: A working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and code that helps you communicate with engineers and understand technical constraints.
  • Visual Communication & Storytelling: Skill in creating simple illustrations or icons that help explain complex insurance or pet-care concepts to the user visually.
  • UX Writing & Microcopy: Ability to craft clear, concise, and persuasive UI copy. You can self-serve on button labels, error messages, and value propositions to keep experiments moving without waiting for a dedicated copywriter.
