Junior AWS Engineer

Salary: £40,000 - £50,000

Location: York, Hybrid (once a week onsite)

About the role

We’re recruiting a Junior AWS Engineer to join a skilled Cloud Services team within a leading MSP based in York. This role is ideal for a Linux or infrastructure engineer who is looking to transition into cloud engineering and build hands-on AWS experience in a supportive, production environment.

You’ll work alongside experienced AWS Engineers, gaining exposure to real-world AWS platforms, customer environments, and cloud migration projects. You’ll be supported with mentoring, training, and structured development as you grow your AWS capability.

This is a hybrid role, and candidates must be within commutable distance of York. All applicants must be eligible for security clearance, having lived in the UK for at least five years.

Key responsibilities:

• Support the delivery, operation, and security of AWS platforms alongside senior engineers.
• Assist in supporting production and non-production customer environments across AWS.
• Work with internal teams to help deliver AWS migration and managed service onboarding projects.
• Carry out day-to-day operational tasks, monitoring, and incident support for customer infrastructure.
• Learn and contribute to Infrastructure as Code practices and automation under guidance.
• Engage with customers in a supported capacity, building confidence in technical and client-facing skills.
• Continuously develop AWS knowledge through hands-on work, training, and mentoring.

Key requirements:

• A solid background in Linux systems or infrastructure engineering (commercial experience required).
• Some exposure to AWS or cloud platforms, whether through hands-on work, labs, certifications, or personal projects.
• A basic understanding of networking, security, and infrastructure fundamentals.
• Awareness of scripting or automation (for example Bash, Python, or similar).
• An interest in Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Strong communication skills and a willingness to learn in a client-facing MSP environment.
• Eligible for SC security clearance.
