The Mobile App Engineer is responsible for building and maintaining high-quality mobile applications that deliver seamless and engaging user experiences across iOS and Android platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate business requirements into clear technical specifications and contribute to effort estimation for new features and enhancements.
  • Develop and maintain mobile applications using React Native (TypeScript) for iOS and Android, ensuring code quality and adherence to best practices.
  • Build reusable UI components aligned with design systems and integrate native modules when required (Swift/Objective‑C, Kotlin/Java).
  • Write and maintain unit and integration tests (e.g., Jest, Detox) to ensure reliability and support automated quality checks.
  • Assist with build and release processes for App Store and Google Play, including preparing release notes and supporting staged rollouts.
  • Work closely with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to deliver features that meet user and business needs.
  • Support accessibility requirements (e.g., dynamic font sizes, screen reader compatibility) and collaborate with QA to validate compliance.
  • Use CI/CD pipelines for automated builds and deployments; assist in maintaining environment configurations and code signing.
  • Support instrumentation of analytics and crash reporting to monitor app performance and user behaviour.
  • Ensure compliance with App Store and Google Play guidelines during development and release.
  • Perform work in a manner that complies with relevant regulatory standards including Work Health & Safety (WHS) legislation.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline; or equivalent practical experience in mobile application development (4+ years in mobile application development – React Native).
  • Solid understanding of object-oriented programming, applying SOLID principles and common design patterns.
  • Proficiency in React Native for cross-platform mobile development (iOS and Android).
  • Hands-on experience with Android Studio and Xcode, including basic integration of native modules.
  • Experience in working with tools like Xcode, VS code and Android Studio
  • Debugging skills with React native dev tools
  • Hands on experience with JavaScript (ES6) and Typescript
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and iterative delivery practices, contributing to sprint planning and reviews
  • Working knowledge of RESTful APIs, client-server architecture, and mobile/web design patterns.
  • Experience releasing apps to App Store and Google Play, including basic compliance steps.
  • Proficiency with source control tools (Git) and branching strategies.
  • Ability to write unit and integration tests using frameworks like Jest and Detox.
  • Understanding of CI/CD concepts for mobile.
  • Exposure to state management libraries (Redux or MobX) and navigation frameworks (React Navigation).
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Prior experience in the insurance or healthcare domain is highly desirable.
