Keystone Solutions is seeking a Network Engineer to join a consultancy mission supporting our client. As a Keystone Solutions consultant, you will deliver the full scope of responsibilities on-site with the client, working primarily at the clients central IT line and traveling to decentralized units nationwide as projects require.
About the Client Environment:
Our client is a specialized federal judicial organization primarily tasked with combating organized crime in all its forms. It is one of the three general directorates within the federal structure and focuses on investigative files in areas such as cybercrime, terrorism, major crime, drug trafficking, and more. It provides support and expertise to the integrated police as well as to national and international partners.
Within this directorate, operational resources are dedicated to judicial police operations, the fight against serious and organized crime, special units, and technical and scientific police operations.
To meet specialized needs, the client has established an IT Line with a central level that complements decentralized teams across the judicial pillar. The IT Line includes a Data division (data engineering and data science), a Software division (applications and services), and an Operations division responsible for implementing and maintaining the infrastructure underpinning the Data and Software divisions.
Role Description:
As a Network Engineer within the Operations division of the clients IT Line, your primary role is to ensure the design, implementation, security, and high availability of the network infrastructures of the datacenters and decentralized units at the national level on which the IT Line relies. You will work mainly at the central level of the IT Line, and you will also go on-site according to project needs.
The role includes both hands-on technical configuration and physical installation of equipment, such as installing server racks in datacenters and managing cabling there and at decentralized sites. This is a diverse and rewarding position, both technically and humanly. Your expertise will support critical projects such as server migrations and network upgrades to ensure robustness, security, and performance.
Main Missions:
- First phase: ensure the progressive migration of physical servers (traditional and AI) from the current datacenter to a new datacenter.
- Take stock of the existing environment and propose a migration plan detailing tasks, timelines, and identified risks.
- Set up all necessary network equipment and configurations required for the installation of servers in the new datacenter.
- Participate in transferring servers, including de-installation, transport, and re-installation at the new site.
- Subsequently ensure maintenance and updates related to the network aspects of this infrastructure.
- Second phase: support the connection of different local networks to a national network. In this context, you will participate in:
- Implementing the physical connections between sites.
- Configuring and installing firewalls.
- Maintaining and evolving the solution.
- More generally, provide technical support to decentralized teams in the various judicial directions by accompanying, advising, and offering basic training to enable them to maintain a performant and secure network at their site.
- You hold at least a bachelors degree in computer science, ideally with a systems orientation, and you have several years of experience in a similar role.
- You have solid experience with:
- pfSense / OPNsense,
- Cisco network equipment,
- High-availability networks.
- You have good knowledge of network security and VPN technologies.
- You can physically install servers in racks and perform cabling operations within a datacenter.
- You can diagnose network problems, identify the root cause, and provide clear and effective assistance to users.
- Experience in Linux administration and virtualization (KVM, Proxmox) is an asset.
- You demonstrate strong team spirit and effective communication.
- You are proficient in English as well as one of the two national languages. Active knowledge of one national language and at least passive knowledge of the other is a real advantage.
- Knowledge of the police environment, and particularly of a federal judicial police context, is also considered an asset.
- Firewall and Security:
- Deployment and management of pfSense and OPNsense firewalls in high-availability environments.
- Design and implementation of secure network architectures aligned with best practices.
- Network Infrastructure:
- Configuration and maintenance of Cisco Layer 2 and Layer 3 switches for on-premises server setups in high-availability environments.
- Design and advisory for physical networks (LAN) and virtual networks (VLAN).
- Datacenter – Physical Work:
- Rack-and-stack installation of physical servers and optimal cabling within datacenters.
- Support and Troubleshooting:
- End-user assistance for setting up and troubleshooting VPN connections (e.g., OpenVPN).
- Collaboration and Advice:
- Coordination with nationally distributed (decentralized) teams to ensure network solution design and optimization, covering scalability and security.
- Adaptability: Ability to adapt to technology or strategy changes.
- Perseverance: Not giving up at the first difficulty.
- Team spirit: Integrating into the teams vision and thinking collectively.
- Autonomy: Ability to work independently once alignment is achieved with the team.
- Technical curiosity: Going beyond ones current knowledge.
- Creativity: Proposing original, out-of-the-box solutions.
- Solution orientation: Detecting problems and, above all, proposing solutions.
- Ease of integration: Quickly integrating into a new environment.
- Communication: Communicating easily and as soon as necessary.
As a Keystone Solutions consultant, you will operate on-site at the clients locations, embedded with their teams while backed by Keystones community of experts.
