Job Title: Data Protection Officer

Job Purpose
Set up and implement frameworks to protect data, safeguarding sensitive information and making specific data available according to organizational requirements. Ensure that the organisation processes the personal data of its staff, customers, providers or any other individuals (also referred to as data subjects) in compliance with the applicable data protection rules.
Key Responsibilities
Data Protection Framework & Practices
- Develop data protection frameworks and strategies in line with the department’s strategic objectives and priorities.
- Provide support in developing and updating internal data protection policies, guidelines, and procedures, in consultation with key stakeholders.
- Keep abreast and leverage knowledge of data protection best practices and tools in developing data protection strategies and processes.
Data Protection Compliance
- Conduct regular security audits to ensure compliance and address any potential issues.
- Assess compliance to data protection for new projects/initiatives and existing data assets.
- Draw DCT’s attention to any failure to comply with the applicable data protection rules.
Data Protection Awareness and Support
- Provide support to business and IT stakeholders in relation to data protection.
- Ensure that data subjects are informed about their data protection rights, obligations and responsibilities.
- Raise awareness and educate employees on the importance of data protection.
- Provide advice and recommendations to the employees about the interpretation or application of the data protection rules.
- Deliver trainings across all business units to staff members who are involved in data handling or processing.
Shared Activity
- Carry out any other duties and responsibilities related to the role at the request of the direct manager.
- Follow all relevant departmental policies, processes, standard operating procedures, and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.
- Demonstrate compliance to organization’s values and ethics at all times to support the establishment of a value drive culture within the organization.
- Contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement and sustainability of systems, processes and practices considering global standards, productivity improvement and cost reduction.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or any other decree within relevant industry.
- Fresh graduate, or 1 to 2 years of experience in data protection or other experience within similar fields.
Skills
- Language: Full professional English proficiency both in speaking and writing; Arabic desirable
- Skilled in MS Office (PowerPoint, Word and Excel)
- Good understanding of the industry standard frameworks, such as DAMA, DMBOK.
- Experience in UAE and/or EU data privacy laws.
- Administrative skills and attention to detail.
- Interpersonal communication skills.
- Project management skills.
