Role Overview:

The Network Support Engineer – L2 is responsible for supporting, monitoring, and maintaining the data center network infrastructure across large on-prem deployments. This includes routing and switching, network fabrics, firewalls, load balancers, VPNs, and connectivity components supporting compute, Kubernetes, and GPU/AI workloads. The role focuses on operational stability, incident diagnostics and troubleshooting, proactive health monitoring, and execution of approved network changes in line with established SOPs and Change Management processes. The Network Support Engineer works collaboratively with the Service Desk and Systems Support and Engineering teams to support incident handling, cross-domain troubleshooting, and overall stability and performance of the network environment.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Monitor data center network fabrics for availability, performance deviations, and anomalies using operational dashboards and monitoring tools.
  • Respond to network-related incidents, perform diagnostics, and troubleshoot issues according to established SOPs and operational guidelines.
  • Conduct routine health checks across switches, ports, links, fabric services, and connectivity paths to maintain stable network operations.
  • Execute approved network configuration changes, firmware updates, and maintenance activities following Change Management procedures.
  • Work closely with the Service Desk to ensure accurate ticket triage, timely updates, and clear communication on network-related incidents.
  • Collaborate with Systems Engineering for deeper technical analysis or cross-domain troubleshooting when required.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date network documentation, including topology diagrams, configuration baselines, and operational runbooks.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret logs, counters, telemetry, and traces to support investigation, RCA preparation, and structured troubleshooting.
  • Identify recurring issues and contribute to Problem Management activities by providing technical insights and recommending corrective actions.
  • Assist in validating network upgrades, hardware replacements, firmware rollouts, or con-figuration changes in production or staging environments.
  • Follow approved firewall, ACL, segmentation, and security standards to ensure compliance and secure network operation.
  • Participate in on-call rotations to support 24/7 operational readiness and timely network incident response.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by enhancing monitoring thresholds, re-fining SOPs, and improving operational practices and documentation

Required Qualification, Experience, Competence and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology or a related field.
  • 3–6 years of experience in network operations, network support, or data center networking roles.
  • Strong understanding of L2/L3 networking technologies and protocols (VLANs, STP, LACP, BGP, OSPF, ECMP, VRFs).
  • Hands-on experience supporting data center switching environments (e.g., Cisco, Arista, Juniper, Mellanox/NVIDIA).
  • Experience with high-performance networking technologies such as InfiniBand and RoCE is a strong advantage.
  • Familiarity with firewalls, ACLs, network segmentation, and general network security best practices.
  • Experience with network monitoring and telemetry tools
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to interpret logs, counters, traces, and net-work metrics during incident investigations.
  • Experience working within ITIL-driven operational frameworks
  • Strong documentation skills to maintain network diagrams, configuration baselines, SOPs, and runbooks.
  • Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, JNCIA, or JNCIS are preferred; advanced certifications are an advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in shift-based or on-call rotations when required.
