We combine compact hardware, advanced sensors, and real-time AI to deliver intuitive, accessible help to everyday people. Our device changes the way by which we connect with and use technology as humans, by introducing a voice-first technology that understands you conversationally and can carry out tangible tasks or requests using sensor data, advanced AI and IoT.
Location: Melbourne, Australia (open to hybrid/remote applications)
Team: 25 engineers (hardware, software, AI) + 3 commercial strategists
Role: Device Engineer
We’re looking for an experienced Device Engineer to join our product and engineering teams. This role will own the development of native mobile applications that interface directly with our devices, as well as the supporting frontend layers that connect hardware, cloud services, and user experience.
You’ll work closely with embedded, backend, and product teams to deliver reliable, high-performance device experiences across mobile platforms.
Core Expertise
- Strong experience building native Android applications using Kotlin for production environments.
- Solid experience with React (and React Native or hybrid architectures where appropriate) for device-facing and companion interfaces.
- Proven ability to design and implement device communication layers (BLE, Wi-Fi, APIs, messaging, or similar).
- Experience integrating mobile apps with cloud services, with hands-on use of Azure DevOps for CI/CD, pipelines, and release management.
- Strong understanding of mobile performance, reliability, and lifecycle management, especially for apps that interact with hardware.
- Comfort working across the stack with embedded, backend, and product teams.
Key Experience
- 3+ years building production mobile applications, ideally for hardware-enabled or device-centric products.
- Demonstrated experience shipping and maintaining Android apps in Kotlin.
- Experience using React in production (web, hybrid, or companion interfaces).
- Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps (pipelines, builds, releases, issue tracking).
- Experience debugging real-world device issues (connectivity, state sync, latency, edge cases).
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain native mobile applications that interface directly with our devices.
- Build and evolve device companion interfaces using Kotlin and React-based frontends.
- Implement and maintain reliable device-to-app communication and cloud integration.
- Work closely with embedded, backend, and product teams to ensure seamless end-to-end behaviour.
- Contribute to CI/CD workflows using Azure DevOps to support rapid, reliable iteration.
- Optimize performance, stability, and UX across a wide range of real-world usage scenarios.
