Nexeo Belgium is a consulting company supporting clients in banking, finance, insurance, and public sectors throughout their digital transformation projects.

We are currently looking for a Data Engineer to join a cross-functional Data & Analytics team within the IT department of a leading organization.

Mission Context

The Data & Analytics team is responsible for building and maintaining large-scale data platforms that enable business insights, reporting, and advanced analytics.

As a Data Engineer, you will design, develop, and optimize robust data pipelines, ensure high-quality data delivery, and collaborate closely with Data Scientists, Business Analysts, and IT teams to support data-driven decision making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines for large-scale databases (Oracle, SybaseIQ, SQL Server, etc.).
  • Develop and maintain data processing applications using Java, Python, or Spark.
  • Ensure data quality, consistency, and integrity across all platforms.
  • Collaborate with Business Analysts and Data Scientists to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Optimize batch processing, scheduling, and data workflows for performance and scalability.
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, and automation for data pipelines.
  • Support data governance, security, and compliance initiatives (e.g., GDPR).
  • Troubleshoot complex data issues and implement continuous process improvements.

Profile

Languages

  • English – Fluent (mandatory)
  • Dutch or French – Fluent or good understanding

Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field, or equivalent professional experience in data-intensive roles.

Experience & Technical Skills

Mandatory

  • 3+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar data-intensive role.
  • Strong expertise in ETL tools (Informatica, Talend, DataStage, etc.).
  • Experience with large-scale databases and SQL optimization.
  • Proficient in programming languages: Java, Python, or similar.
  • Knowledge of data pipeline scheduling, monitoring, and performance tuning.

Preferred

  • Experience with big data platforms (Hadoop, Spark, Hive, etc.).
  • Familiarity with cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Knowledge of CI/CD, DevOps practices, and automation of data workflows.
  • Experience in banking, finance, or insurance is a plus.

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Autonomous, proactive, and results-oriented.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
