Full-timeEngineering

Handwave is the world’s first biometric wallet, letting people pay, prove their age, and collect loyalty with a single palm scan. No phone. No wallet. No cards.

The wallet-digging, the “oops, forgot my loyalty card”, the age-check awkward stare-down, the many apps juggling, the lines that never move… it drives anyone crazy.

We’re building the team that waves all of that away.

Our mission is simple: make checkout as light as a handwave.

We are looking for a hands-on engineer with strong optics + imaging + embedded experience to help evolve our next-generation hardware.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and refine an embedded imaging module combining visible and non-visible spectral channels
  • Select and evaluate image sensors, lenses, filters, optical stack elements, and illumination components
  • Design and iterate illumination systems with appropriate drivers and synchronization
  • Build and test optical prototypes, rigs, and experimental setups
  • Work with embedded engineers on camera bring-up, ISP tuning, calibration workflows, and exposure/gain control
  • Analyze image quality, run calibration procedures, and assist with production test specifications
  • Collaborate with mechanical, firmware, and ML teams to optimize the full imaging pipeline

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working with embedded cameras (MIPI/USB), including sensor bring-up, calibration, and tuning
  • Solid understanding of optics fundamentals: lenses, filters, spectral behavior, optical performance, and practical trade-offs
  • Experience designing or integrating illumination systems (LEDs, drivers, timing, thermal considerations)
  • Confidence working with raw image data, exposure logic, and ISP parameters
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of a complete imaging subsystem end-to-end
  • Strong communication, documentation, and cross-team collaboration skills
  • Experience with ISP tuning, color calibration, or imaging pipeline optimization
  • Exposure to biometric, medical, or machine-vision imaging (or similarly demanding imaging domains)- nice to have.
  • Understanding of opto-mechanical design principles relevant to camera and illumination integration
  • Familiarity with embedded Linux or Android camera frameworks (drivers, V4L2, HAL, tuning workflows)

What We Offer

  • Ownership of a core biometric imaging subsystem
  • Autonomy to shape the optical + imaging architecture
  • Modern equipment and prototyping support
  • Competitive salary & additional benefits
