You paddle in, buzzing after a good one. You saw a filmer on the rocks. Maybe a photographer on the beach. You think, “Surely I got something.”

Then the hunt begins.

You scroll through Instagram stories. You DM random accounts. You message mates. You try to explain what board you were on, what time you surfed, what wave you took. Half the time you never find the clip. If you do, it’s buried in DMs, payment is awkward, delivery is manual, and the whole thing turns into a hassle.

On the other side, photographers are sitting on thousands of unreal shots. They put in the hours, cull and edit, then rely on hoping surfers reach out. Most never do. Sales get missed, files get requested in every format imaginable, and the workflow becomes chaotic fast.

So the best moments in surfing keep disappearing, and creators lose money on work they already did.

Company Description

Got Barreled is the marketplace where surfers can find and buy their photos and clips after a session, and where photographers can upload once and sell on repeat.

We already have 70+ photographers on board and a fully working platform live in market. Now it’s about scaling what works, making the product feel unbeatable, and growing globally across surf regions.

We are especially focused on growth in Australia, Indonesia, and Portugal.

Role Description

This is a rare opportunity to join as a true Technical Co-Founder and own the engineering direction of a platform that deals with high-volume media, fast delivery, and a frictionless checkout experience.

You will work directly with the founder to:

• Scale the marketplace and core product experience end-to-end
• Strengthen media pipelines across upload, processing, storage, previews, and delivery
• Build for performance, reliability, and security as usage grows
• Improve infrastructure, cost efficiency, and observability
• Help shape technical strategy for fundraising and team growth
• Compensation is equity now, with salary kicking in once funding is secured.

Location preference: Australia / Indonesia.

We’re looking for someone who has

Must haves

• Frontend experience with Next.js, React, and TypeScript
• Backend experience with NestJS and Node.js
• PostgreSQL experience in production
• AWS experience with a strong focus on S3 and media handling workflows
• Ability to ship fast, own outcomes, and make good engineering calls under pressure

Nice to have

• Stripe and payments integrations, Stripe Connect is a big plus
• Experience with security for paid media content
• Performance optimisation for media-heavy products
• Logging, metrics, alerting, cost optimisation

Lifestyle fit

• You care about surfing or surf photography culture (surfer is a big plus)
