About Lightyear

We’re on a mission to make investing better for everyone in Europe. More specifically, we’re making it light years better (sorry… we had to!). We’re combining multi-currency accounts with unlimited access to global markets so that everyone in Europe can invest without sneaky hidden fees or unnecessary barriers.

In just four years, we’ve gone from idea to fully regulated in both the UK and EU, launched across 25 countries, raised $58M, and built a 70+ strong team from Europe’s top fintechs and startups.

We’re backed by a stellar line-up of investors – including Lightspeed Venture Partners, Sir Richard Branson, Mosaic Ventures, NordicNinja, and some of Europe’s top founders like Taavet Hinrikus (Wise), Jaan Tallinn (Skype), and Markus Villig (Bolt).

Description

The Data team at Lightyear is small, lean, and handles the entire end-to-end pipeline – from platform observability and ingestion to analytics engineering and governance. We don’t just "provide reports"; we build the infrastructure that empowers a company of data-savvy individuals (yes, our colleagues write their own SQL) to move fast and stay informed.

We are looking for a technical generalist to bridge the gap between complex regulatory requirements and high-performance data engineering. You will be the technical backbone for our Compliance and Operations teams, ensuring we meet global brokerage standards through smart automation rather than manual checklists.

What You Will Do

  • Engineer risk models: own the end-to-end implementation of models for AML, market abuse detection, and customer risk profiling.
  • Bridge the product gap: build POCs for internal data tools and work side-by-side with Product Engineering to integrate these insights directly into the Lightyear app.
  • Architect the reporting layer: design and maintain a bulletproof reporting layer that is audit-ready, modular, and easily navigable for both humans and machines.
  • Operational tooling: develop data-driven workflows that help our Ops team handle customer management and regulatory reporting with high precision and low friction.
  • Champion best practices: apply rigorous analytics engineering standards – including version control, automated testing, documentation, and auditability – to everything you build.
  • Tech stack: you’ll live and breathe in SQL, Python, dbt, Redshift, and Airflow.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience: you have solid experience in a data-heavy role (Data Analytics, Analytics Engineering, Data Engineering) and are comfortable owning projects from scratch.
  • Technical generalist: you enjoy the full-stack nature of data – you’re as comfortable debugging an Airflow DAG as you are explaining a data trend to a Compliance Officer.
  • Quality obsessive: In the world of risk and brokerage, "close enough" isn't enough. You take pride in building systems that are accurate and auditable.
  • Owner mindset: you don’t wait for a ticket to fix a stalling process. You see a bottleneck, propose a solution, and ship it.
  • Communication: you can translate complex regulatory logic into clean code and explain technical constraints to non-technical stakeholders with ease.
