What you will do

We’re seeking an entrepreneurial engineer who will work closely with the team to architect, build and scale Desai’s platform, powered by our state-of-the-art AI algorithms.

You will have significant ownership of the technical architecture of our product and play a pivotal role in building the core technology that will power our innovative furnishing platform. You will be hands-on in crafting solutions that balance leading research with practical implementation, ensuring our platform not only meets user needs but also pushes the boundaries of what AI can achieve in e-commerce.

You will collaborate closely with the Founder, Founding Engineer and Head of AI to design and deliver a seamless product experience. A major part of your role will be building and refining our front-end in React/TypeScript, ensuring a smooth, intuitive interface for users interacting with AI-powered features. You’ll also contribute to data integrations, scraping, and ETL pipelines, helping transform raw data into a structured database that powers our recommendation algorithms and search functionality.

As an early-stage engineer, you will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of your code: from front-end components and user interactions through back-end integrations, deployment, monitoring, and iteration. You’ll be a subject matter expert for key parts of the codebase while maintaining a broad understanding of how the whole product fits together.

On a day to day basis you will

• Collaborate with the CEO, Founding Engineer and Head of AI to shape and deliver the technical roadmap for our AI-driven platform
• Build and maintain the front-end (React/TypeScript) and contribute to back-end development, ensuring a smooth, reliable, and engaging user experience
• Prototype and test new product features, rapidly iterating based on user feedback
• Work on integrations: scraping, APIs, and data pipelines to enrich our furniture catalogue and power recommendation systems
• Support AI integration by helping deploy machine learning models into production, ensuring they operate smoothly within the platform
• Contribute to MLOps and cloud infrastructure, helping to build scalable data and ML workflows
• Provide technical input and mentorship as the team grows, helping establish strong engineering practices
• Be proactive in staying up-to-date and applying novel technologies in order to ensure incremental increase in quality and/or performance of the product. 

This role is ideal for a versatile and hands-on engineer with a front-end and data focus who is passionate about leveraging AI to create meaningful user experiences and is excited about the challenges and opportunities of working in a dynamic start-up environment.

Tech stack

We are language agnostic at Desai. We’re looking for people with a growth mindset who are excited about solving problems, rather than leveraging a specific technology.

That said, here are the technologies you’re most likely to encounter in our stack:

• Front-end: React.js, TypeScript/JavaScript
• Back-end & APIs: Node.js, Python, API development, Java optional
• Databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, NoSQL, Redis, Redshift, Athena
• Infrastructure & Cloud: AWS (Lambda, SQS, Step Functions), Docker, Harness.io
• Data: Spark optional
• Collaboration & Version Control: Git

You don’t need to know all of these from day one — but familiarity with several and the curiosity to learn others will set you up for success.

What you need to be successful:

·      Strong Technical Expertise with AI-related applications including a deep understanding of both front-end and back-end development and a proven track record of building and maintaining scalable, full-stack applications, ideally with exposure to AI-driven products.

·      Full-Stack Versatility as a jack-of-all-trades when it comes to full-stack development. Whether it's optimising a database, debugging a front-end issue, or tweaking an API, you’re capable and eager to dive into any part of the tech stack.

• MLOps Awareness optional with hands-on experience or interest in integrating AI models into production systems and having experience with data preprocessing, feature engineering, and deployment workflows.
• Problem-Solving Mindset approaching challenges with creativity and tenacity to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment where new problems arise every day and are skilled at finding practical, innovative solutions.
• Collaboration and Communication skills to work closely as a cross-functional team, articulate technical concepts and brainstorm innovative solutions in a collaborative environment.
