About The Organization

The Atmospheric Processes and Composition Group in the Department of Physics and Atmospheric Science studies aerosol sources, processing, and sinks in polar and marine environments. This project focuses on quantifying high latitude dust in the atmosphere as well as its deposition into the ocean using a combination of satellite imagery and the chemical transport model GEOS -Chem.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the Research Assistant will implement a dust emission scheme that is compatible with GEOS -Chem input files and then quantify the contributions of high-latitude dust to atmospheric aerosol loading and deposition into the ocean.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop an emission inventory for high-latitude dust to be used by the global chemical transport model GEOS -Chem.
  • Quantify the dust deposition into Arctic waters.
  • Mentor graduate students in the research group as appropriate.
  • Discuss knowledge and research with interested faculty members and graduate students.
  • Publish results obtained in appropriate journals and other recognized media.

Note

The successful applicant will primarily work remotely from within Nova Scotia with occasional presence in-person on-campus to meet client needs and operation requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in atmospheric science or related field.
  • Experience generating emission inventories and running global chemical transport models, preferably GEOS -Chem.
  • Ability to work independently.
