About The Team

The Demand Capacity org is responsible for some of Workday’s core service orchestration technologies, which are deployed in Workday’s data center and public cloud environments. We provide orchestration solutions for other Workday development and operations teams, allowing us to reach the next level of scale.

Within this team, we are responsible for Workday’s optimized job processing platform, which performs some of the largest customer jobs in Workday. We are a core part of the Workday stack, working with concurrent and distributed systems to provide this background job processing platform for our internal and external customers.

Our platform performs mission critical processing for our customers and has a key role in the scalability of Workday’s platform. The team is constantly innovating and evolving to build the next generation of critical Workday services.

About The Role

We are seeking a Software Build Engineer to design, implement, and maintain the build systems within Demand Capacity. This role is responsible for developing and optimizing build infrastructure, including scripts, tool chains, and CI/CD pipelines for local, cloud, and Jenkins-based environments. You will define strategies for code verification, test automation, and software release processes, while managing build configurations across multiple hardware platforms.

The role also involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot build issues, integrate automated testing, and ensure software quality—supported by clear, thorough technical documentation.

About You

Required Qualifications:

  • 5 years of building frameworks, automation, and tooling.
  • 3+ years of professional experience developing in Java.
  • Experience with Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or comparable technologies.
  • Experience with Version Control Systems such as Git, SVN, etc.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm.
  • Experience with Gradle, Maven or comparable technologies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective cross-functional collaboration.

Other Qualifications:

  • Proficient in scripting such as Python, Bash, or Groovy.
  • Experience with writing Gradle plugins.
  • Familiarity with designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines to automate the SDLC.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with a drive for continuous improvement.
  • Familiarity with the Betis Build Framework.
  • Proactive in learning new tools and staying updated on industry trends.

Our Approach to Flexible Work

With Flex Work, we’re combining the best of both worlds: in-person time and remote. Our approach enables our teams to deepen connections, maintain a strong community, and do their best work. We know that flexibility can take shape in many ways, so rather than a number of required days in-office each week, we simply spend at least half (50%) of our time each quarter in the office or in the field with our customers, prospects, and partners (depending on role). This means you'll have the freedom to create a flexible schedule that caters to your business, team, and personal needs, while being intentional to make the most of time spent together. Those in our remote "home office" roles also have the opportunity to come together in our offices for important moments that matter.

Are you being referred to one of our roles? If so, ask your connection at Workday about our Employee Referral process!

At Workday, we value our candidates’ privacy and data security. Workday will never ask candidates to apply to jobs through websites that are not Workday Careers.

Please be aware of sites that may ask for you to input your data in connection with a job posting that appears to be from Workday but is not.

In addition, Workday will never ask candidates to pay a recruiting fee, or pay for consulting or coaching services, in order to apply for a job at Workday.
