About The Role
We are seeking a talented Midweight UI Designer to join our Puzzles team, which operates within the newly established Premium Propositions Product Group on a 12-month fixed-term contract or through an internal secondment. The primary focus of this role is to craft visually compelling, polished, and user-friendly interfaces for both web and mobile platforms. From quick crosswords to cryptic puzzles, our Guardian puzzles aim to elevate our readers' downtime and enhance their engagement with our content. You will collaborate closely with Senior UX Designers, Product Managers, and Engineers to transform concepts and user flows into delightful, accessible experiences that resonate with our diverse audience. Your work will directly influence user engagement, retention, and subscription growth by ensuring a consistent, high-quality design language across all touchpoints.
Qualifications
- Proven experience designing digital interfaces for web and mobile applications.
- Strong visual design skills with a keen eye for typography, layout, colour harmony, and iconography.
- Experience working within design systems and component libraries to ensure consistency and efficiency.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with UX Designers, Engineers, and Product Managers in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Knowledge of accessibility standards and responsive design principles to create inclusive experiences.
- Experience designing gamified or interactive experiences, with an interest in casual gaming or puzzles being advantageous.
As a UI Design Executive, your responsibilities will include translating UX wireframes, user flows, and prototypes into polished visual interfaces that align with The Guardian's brand guidelines and design system. You will create assets for web and mobile platforms, including layouts, icons, illustrations, and interactive elements, ensuring visual hierarchy, clarity, and accessibility are maintained throughout. Collaborating closely with UX designers, you will ensure that visual elements support usability and enhance user engagement. Additionally, you will work with Product Managers and Engineers to implement designs accurately and efficiently, providing UI-focused input during development. Your role will involve supporting testing and iteration by creating visual prototypes for user feedback and validation, as well as suggesting improvements to components, styles, and patterns to optimize design quality. Staying current with UI trends, visual design best practices, and emerging tools will be essential, as you contribute ideas to elevate the visual polish of the Puzzles proposition.
About You
- Demonstrated experience designing digital interfaces for web and mobile platforms.
- Exceptional visual design skills with a strong understanding of typography, layout, colour, and iconography.
- Experience working with design systems, style guides, and component libraries.
- Comfortable collaborating within cross-functional teams including UX designers, developers, and product stakeholders.
- Solid understanding of accessibility standards and responsive design techniques.
- Experience in designing gamified or interactive digital experiences, with an interest in puzzles or casual gaming preferred.
