Summary

Application Engineer providing technical expertise and engineering support for KUKA Robotics' internal and external stakeholders in autonomous mobile robot (AMR) technology. Responsibilities include consulting, advising, designing, modifying, developing, and implementing engineered solutions for AMR and automation solutions and deployments using KUKA products and packages across various industries.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides technical support and troubleshooting for customers deploying AMR solutions.
  • Understands customer automation requirements and provides technical recommendations.
  • Advises on automation solutions, software architectures, and hardware.
  • Works with internal stakeholders to execute technical initiatives and provide feedback.
  • Designs, develops software supporting autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) solutions.
  • Supports simulations to help characterize and optimize AMR solutions validating fleet size estimations, throughput and space requirements
  • Conducts system-level testing and debugging to characterize, understand, resolve issues.
  • Develops documentation and technical notes for software and hardware configurations.
  • Optimizes AMR mapping, navigation, obstacle avoidance, and path planning functionalities.
  • Supports customers in designing and developing AMR solutions and deployments.
  • Stays updated with advancements in robotics and autonomous mobile robot systems.
  • Investigates new and existing technologies for technical initiatives.
  • Provides technical direction on assigned projects.
  • Performs in-house, on-site, and remote support for KUKA products.
  • Offers high-level support for software interfacing and KUKA software options.
  • Collaborates with Sales and Business Development teams on technical objectives.
  • Develops and runs industry and customer-specific demonstrations and proof of concepts.
  • Completes tasks within defined timelines.
  • Ensures compliance with customer and other specifications.
  • Writes application notes detailing product-specific problems and solutions.
  • Travels domestically and internationally as required.
  • Promotes teamwork and cooperative effort.



Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.E.E./B.S.C/B.S.M.E./ B.S.CS) from four-year college or university, years of related experience and/or training as detailed; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience with the following is preferred.

  • High level programming languages (Java, C, C++, C#, Python, etc.)
  • Communication interfaces (Ethernet, MQTT, OPC UA, PLC/Fieldbuses, etc.)
  • Experience with AMR technologies (SLAM, VSLAM, lidar, 3D cameras, fleet management, etc.)
  • High level plant/manufacturing systems (MES, ERP, WMS, etc.)
  • Experience with SCADA solutions (Ignition, etc.)
