Role Summary

We are looking for an experienced Lead PHP Developer with Laravel expertise to lead our development team in building and maintaining cutting-edge web applications. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the Laravel framework and be passionate about delivering high-quality, scalable solutions. As a technical leader, you will mentor other developers, guide architecture decisions, and ensure best practices are adhered to across all projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of PHP developers, focusing on the development and maintenance of Laravel-based applications.

• Design, develop, and optimise web applications using PHP (Laravel) and other relevant technologies.

• Establish and enforce coding standards, best practices, and testing strategies within the team.

• Architect and implement scalable, secure, and high-performance web solutions.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including designers, product managers, and stakeholders, to develop new features and improve existing functionality.

• Conduct regular code reviews, provide feedback, and enforce best practices across the team.

• Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to application performance, security, and scalability.

• Ensure seamless integration of third-party APIs and services.

• Stay updated on emerging technologies and Laravel updates, incorporating relevant improvements into the development process.

• Mentor and coach junior developers, fostering a culture of learning and technical excellence.

• Work closely with DevOps to ensure smooth and reliable deployment pipelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

• 5+ years of PHP development experience, with at least 3 years specialising in Laravel.

• Proven experience in leading a development team and managing complex web projects.

• Strong understanding of Laravel’s ecosystem, including Eloquent ORM, Blade templating, routing, middleware, and task scheduling.

• Proficient in front-end technologies like HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and frontend frameworks, particularly Vue.js.

• Solid experience with relational databases, particularly MySQL, and familiarity with database design and optimisation.

• Familiar with version control systems (Git) and modern development workflows (CI/CD).

• Expertise in building RESTful APIs and integrating third-party services.

• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to writing clean, maintainable code.

Desirable qualifications\experience

• Experience with microservices architecture and containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes).

• Experience with cloud services (AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure) is a plus.

• Knowledge of testing frameworks like PHPUnit and TDD/BDD practices.

• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.

• Understanding of security best practices in PHP and Laravel applications.
