Role Description
Running and evolving our networks
You’ll ensure the stable and secure operation of our Layer 2/3 networks – and actively shape their evolution. Your main focus will be on modern data center networks based on Cisco ACI. You'll also be responsible for administering firewalls from top vendors like Fortinet, Palo Alto, and Cisco.
Troubleshooting and performance tuning
When things get complex, you dive into 3rd-level support, analyze network issues, and develop sustainable fixes. You’ll also handle performance analysis and contribute to the ongoing optimization of our network environment.
Shaping architecture and evaluating tech
You’ll help drive the development of TU Graz’s network architecture and assess new technologies with a critical eye toward security, scalability, and compliance.
Automation with purpose
Repetitive tasks? You automate them using tools like Ansible or Terraform. You write scripts (Python, Shell, etc.) to streamline, control, and integrate network processes efficiently.
Sharing knowledge and documenting clearly
You keep our technical documentation clean and understandable. You support knowledge transfer within the team and help new colleagues get up to speed, acting as a go-to person for network expertise.
Collaboration across the IT landscape
As a key contact for network operations, design, and security, you’ll work closely with other IT teams, align on technical matters, and contribute to interdisciplinary projects.
Admission requirements
- Completed IT apprenticeship or advanced technical education (HTL, technical Matura, technical Bachelor's/Master's degree), a comparable relevant qualification, or equivalent professional experience
- Language skills: German and English at least at B2 level
Desired qualifications
Professional Qualifications
- In-depth knowledge of the operation and architecture of Layer 2/Layer 3 networks
- Many years of practical experience with enterprise-level network infrastructures, particularly with Cisco switching, routing, and Cisco ACI
- Extensive experience in the configuration and operation of firewalls (Fortinet, Palo Alto, Cisco)
- Experience in analyzing and resolving complex network issues at the 3rd-level support level
- Desirable: specialized knowledge in automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform) and scripting languages (Python, Shell)
- IPv6 knowledge is an advantage
- Certifications such as CCNA or CCNP are a plus
- At least 6 years of professional experience in the field of responsibility

We offer an annual gross salary of at least € 63,355.60 for a fulltime position. An overpayment based on qualification and experience is possible.
