About Our Search
We are currently looking for a Senior Bioinformatician to join our client who is a biotech company specializing in bioinformatics solutions for rare diseases and cancer, leveraging Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data.
Their cloud-based software, SEQ Platform, is currently used in more than 25 countries and has been adopted by over 350 hospitals and laboratories. To date, it has played a critical role in diagnosing rare diseases for over 270,000 patients and is a leading biotechnology company with a vision of developing products to provide personalized treatment recommendations for cancer patients, helping them live longer and healthier lives.
Role Overview:
As a Senior Bioinformatician, you will play a pivotal role in developing clinical bioinformatics pipelines, applying your advanced skills to address complex data analysis challenges when necessary. Your contribution is vital to the software development team and significantly influences project outcomes. Working alongside a committed team, you will impart your expertise and promote a culture of innovation and creativity.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related field is required
- An advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) or equivalent professional experience is highly preferred
- Extensive knowledge in the field of bioinformatics
- Expertise in the analysis of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data
- Expertise in software development as a team (GIT, Tests etc.)
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and oversee bioinformatics pipelines and software solutions
- Offer expert consultancy on data analysis, as well as in defining project goals and research objectives
- Mentor and support junior team members
- Lead large-scale bioinformatics projects, ensuring their success and the achievement of key milestones
Essential Skills:
- Proficiency in using the Unix Terminal for command-line operations, file management, and process execution
- Advanced skills in Python programming, encompassing object-oriented design, unit testing, and Command Line Interface (CLI) development
- Experience in automating workflows using tools like Nextflow or Snakemake
- Proficiency in using Docker for containerizing and managing bioinformatics workflows
- A solid understanding of Git for version control and collaborative project management
- Expertise in interpreting genetic variants and familiarity with ACMG/AMP guidelines
Desirable Skills:
- Knowledge in utilizing Elasticsearch for managing bioinformatics data, which includes indexing and optimizing queries
- Proficiency in SQL for designing and managing databases that store and query large-scale biological data
- Competence in developing and maintaining biological APIs using Flask or comparable web frameworks
