HackerTrail is hiring a Backend Engineer for a permanent opportunity with a cybersecurity-focused product company building platforms used by global enterprises and critical infrastructure providers.

This role sits within an engineering-led environment where backend systems are built to reflect real-world adversary behaviour. The work is hands-on, technical, and focused on building scalable, high-impact systems that support security-critical use cases.

You’ll be part of a backend team working on distributed services, data-heavy pipelines, and core platform components used by security and defence teams worldwide.

Role responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services that power core platform capabilities
• Build and scale microservices to handle high-volume, real-time data processing
• Work on distributed systems supporting security and analytics workloads
• Collaborate closely with frontend engineers to integrate APIs and data pipelines
• Tackle challenges related to performance, scalability, and system reliability
• Ensure backend components meet high standards for stability and security

Requirements:

• Strong experience in backend development, preferably using Python
• Experience building API-driven services or web service frameworks
• Hands-on experience with message queues or streaming systems such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, Redis Streams, or similar
• Solid understanding of distributed systems, asynchronous processing, and event-driven architectures
• Experience working with relational or NoSQL databases (e.g., MySQL, MongoDB)
• Comfortable working in delivery-focused, engineering-led environments

This is a technical, backend-heavy role suited for engineers who enjoy solving complex problems and working on systems with real security and operational impact.
