About the Role:

This role is within Borrowell's Frontend Platform team, focused on building the foundational components to support product teams. Unlike a typical product role, you won't just be building features; you will be a force multiplier for the entire engineering organization. You will own the architecture of our universal codebase (Web + Mobile), maintain our Expo & Monorepo infrastructure, and design the tools that allow our product teams to iterate quickly and safely.

The role involves cross-functional collaboration with Product, Design, Engineering, Data and QA teams across the company. With an increasing percentage of our members preferring mobile to web, you will see how your efforts make an immediate, lasting impact on helping our members achieve financial stability.

In the first year, you can expect to:

  • Optimize our Monorepo setup to ensure seamless code sharing between React (Web) and React Native (Mobile), reducing duplication and friction
  • Serve as a technical consultant to product teams, defining the "Golden Path" for new features and raising the bar on code quality
  • Maintain and enhance the mobile application using React Native, ensuring reliability and release health

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional experience building applications in React or React Native
  • Strong React fundamentals (hooks, state management, component patterns)
  • TypeScript experience in production code
  • Experience with state management (React Context, React Query, or similar)
  • Understanding of RESTful APIs and async data fetching patterns
  • Solid Git and PR workflow experience
  • Comfort working in a monorepo or multi‑app environment
  • Experience in designing, building cross platform shared UI components across web and mobile
  • Familiarity with mobile CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks and app store submission processes

Nice to Haves

Experience with:

  • Fullstack experience in backend technologies and database systems
  • Familiarity with micro-frontend architectures
  • Experience managing dependencies and shared logic in a Monorepo environment
  • Expo development and OTA update workflow
  • Exposure to AI coding tools such as Cursor and Claude Code
  • Working in fast-paced and high-growth startups

Benefits

  • The Opportunity - join and have a major impact at a growing company that is helping make financial stability possible for everybody
  • Comprehensive Health Benefits - medical, dental, vision, and paramedical health benefits for you and your family, with extra yearly coverage for psychotherapists and massage therapists
  • Additional Health Benefits - virtual benefit offering that allows you to connect 24/7 with nurses, doctors and mental health professionals
  • Maternity & Parental Leave Top-up - available to new parents
  • WFH Reimbursement - we ship you gear like a laptop, mouse, keyboard, and you can reimburse additional items to make your workplace better for you
  • Employee Development Benefit - annual reimbursements on payments to help your learning
  • Givewell Benefit - 1 paid volunteer day a year to give back to the community
  • Flexibility - flexible working hours and a flexible vacation policy

We are remote-first across Canada with an office in Toronto. This role will require you to attend in-person meetings and team-building events.
