The Network Engineer is primarily engaged in troubleshooting, installing network and server issues in customers’ environments including servers, switches, and other networking devices. The Network Engineer will document identified network information that is pertinent for future support. The Network Engineer is primarily troubleshooting issues that were escalated from other tiers. The Network Engineer will work with senior-level engineers to implement solutions for break/fix problems.
Essential Functions
- Troubleshoot networking and server issues for customers.
- Resolve escalated issues & assigned tasks from other internal teams.
- Troubleshoot firewalls, access points, switches, and other network infrastructures.
- Assist with hardware installs as it pertains to networking. i.e. firewalls, switches, UPSs.
- Provide support for customers’ server environments.
- Support identity infrastructure such as Entra ID and Active Directory
- Provide support of network protocols such as DNS, DHCP, and routing.
- Perform customer on-site visits to troubleshoot, repair, install networking and server equipment.
- Troubleshoot Cloud infrastructure, such as Azure VMs, Azure VPN Gateways, Entra ID, & Microsoft Intune.
- Provide input and evaluate new technology.
- Travel to customer sites for diagnosis and remediation of discovered issues.
- Provide assistance with customers’ IT vendors to troubleshoot and remediate their core applications and hardware as it pertains to networking.
- Participates in special projects as required.
- Assists in on-call after hours phone rotation as needed.
- Accomplishes all other duties and tasks as appropriately assigned or requested.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or related field or 2+ years experience in related field.
- Relevant certifications are highly preferred:
- CompTIA: Security+, Network+
- Microsoft: AZ-104, AZ-700
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Experience with networking techniques is required.
- Experience with Cisco, HP, SonicWall, Palo Alto, and Ubiquiti networking equipment is preferred.
- Experience with networking including IP Addressing/Subnetting, VLANS, Port Aggregation, DNS, DHCP, RDP, LDAP, is required.
- Experience with virtualization platforms including VMware and Hyper-V is required.
- Ability to support and troubleshoot server-based software issues with Microsoft Windows Server 2016 and newer, Microsoft Active Directory, Entre ID, Microsoft 365, Microsoft PowerShell, major EDR solutions, and enterprise class backup solutions.
- Experience with DUO is preferred.
- Knowledge in troubleshooting and resolving workstation-based software issues with Microsoft Windows 10 and 11, Microsoft Office applications, and domain and workgroup environments.
- Ability to travel the Northeastern US as needed.
