This is your opportunity to take on a leadership-oriented technical role, guiding backend engineering practices while remaining hands-on in building secure, scalable, and reliable services that power EY’s digital platforms.
The Opportunity
As a Supervising Associate Backend Engineer, you will:
- Lead the design and development of APIs, data access layers, and integrations.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical decision-making.
- Collaborate with Product, Architecture, Frontend, and Data teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Drive best practices in coding, security, and observability across the team.
- Agility and Growth Mindset: Ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Technical Leadership: Experience guiding teams and influencing architecture decisions.
- Collaboration and Inclusivity: Building trust and fostering diverse perspectives.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
- 7+ years of professional experience in backend development, with at least 1 year in a leadership or mentoring capacity.
- Expertise in building backend services and APIs using .NET/C# or Python.
- Strong knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MongoDB).
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and code reviews.
- Working knowledge of Azure Cloud, containerization (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes).
- Familiarity with messaging and event streaming (Kafka, RabbitMQ, Azure Service Bus).
- Solid understanding of security fundamentals and observability practices.
- Experience with microservices, DDD, CQRS, and event-driven architectures.
- Exposure to GraphQL, gRPC, API gateways.
- Performance optimization and caching strategies (Redis).
- Background in regulated environments or financial services.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/Bicep).
- Proven ability to lead distributed teams and drive technical excellence.
- Technical Leadership: Guide design reviews, mentor team members, and enforce coding standards.
- Service & API Development: Architect and implement robust APIs and backend services.
- Quality & Reliability: Ensure high test coverage, implement CI/CD, and maintain observability.
- Security & Compliance: Apply secure coding practices and support audits.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive automation, reduce operational toil, and improve developer experience.
