Backend Engineer, Java, Spring, Fintech, €40-€55k base, Hybrid, Malaga

We’re hiring a Backend Engineer to join a fast growing fintech engineering team working in open banking. This role is focused on building and scaling backend services and APIs that power modern financial products. You’ll be working with distributed systems, collaborating closely with product, support, and customer-facing teams, and contributing to technical decisions that have real impact.

What you’ll be doing

Building and maintaining scalable, secure backend services and APIs

Working closely with product managers and stakeholders to shape requirements

Troubleshooting and debugging production issues alongside support teams

Participating in code reviews and contributing to strong engineering standards

Writing clean, reliable, and maintainable code

Learning about open banking, PSD, and what can be built using modern APIs

What we’re looking for

Experience with Java and the Spring framework

Experience working with microservices and Kubernetes

Comfortable debugging distributed systems, including tracing and observability

Experience designing RESTful APIs and understanding design trade-offs

An API-first, product-minded approach to engineering

Able to work independently while supporting wider team goals

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, with strong commercial experience

Curious, driven, and comfortable working in a fast paced, startup-style environment
