Role Overview:

The Global Technical Engineer is a key member of the technical operations team, responsible for the reliable delivery, performance, and continuous improvement of a mission-critical enterprise application and its supporting infrastructure.


The role requires a proactive, quality-focused engineer with strong troubleshooting abilities, deep Microsoft technology expertise, and the capability to collaborate across technical and business teams in a global environment. The successful candidate will contribute to system stability, incident resolution, automation, and continuous service improvement in line with an ITIL-based operating model.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement technical changes in response to incidents, service requests, and new business requirements, including the deployment of application updates from development teams.
  • Diagnose and resolve application performance issues and system bottlenecks.
  • Develop and maintain in-depth technical expertise across the end-to-end application landscape, including its components, integrations, and underlying server environments.
  • Build and maintain subject matter expertise in the application’s SQL Server environment.
  • Support build verification testing and quality assurance activities.
  • Contribute to the automation of Windows-based operational tasks using PowerShell and other scripting technologies.
  • Perform root cause analysis on production incidents within Windows Server environments.
  • Work closely with Application Support, Major Incident Management, and development teams to investigate and resolve service-impacting issues.
  • Escalate incidents to appropriate teams and drive resolution through effective collaboration.
  • Provide specialist input into Incident Management processes where required.
  • Create, maintain, and update technical documentation including FAQs, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and knowledge base articles.
  • Execute routine operational tasks such as system monitoring, health checks, and scheduled maintenance activities.
  • Support leadership in shaping the strategic direction of the service and delivery model.
  • Contribute to service improvement initiatives covering people, processes, and technology.
  • Engage proactively with business stakeholders, sharing technical insights and contributing to strategic discussions.
  • Operate within a follow-the-sun support model to ensure global service coverage.
  • Actively participate in global IT communities of practice, technology forums, and knowledge-sharing networks.
  • Collaborate with peers across regions to promote alignment, best practices, and innovation.


Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience in the technical implementation and operation of mission-critical IT services.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft technologies, including:
  • SQL Server
  • IIS
  • .NET Framework
  • Windows Server and Windows-based applications
  • Practical experience in writing and troubleshooting SQL queries.
  • Demonstrable experience performing root cause analysis in production environments.
  • Ability to quickly understand complex, multi-component enterprise application landscapes.
  • Strong team collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across technical and business functions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
  • Experience working within an ITIL-based service management framework.
  • Fluent proficiency in English (written and spoken).


Desirable Skills

  • Hands-on experience with Azure IaaS services.
  • Experience deploying applications using CI/CD pipelines.
  • Good understanding of YAML pipelines.
  • Experience working with broader Azure services.
  • Exposure to AI and automation technologies in an IT operations context.
