Welcome to National Broadband Ireland (NBI), where we're leading one the most significant and ambitious telecommunications initiatives in the world. We're tasked with delivering, operating and maintaining Ireland's new, high-speed wholesale broadband network as part of the National Broadband Plan.
Our goal: to revolutionise Ireland's broadband landscape by providing reliable, affordable high-speed fibre broadband infrastructure to every corner of the country where commercial services are currently unavailable. The NBI network is set to connect over 1.1 million people and more than 564,000 premises across Ireland. Key Objectives / Accountabilities: (Max 2-3 points)
NBI is looking for an experienced IT OE Integration Engineer who wants to jump in head-first and design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable integration solutions across NBI systems. The role focuses on middleware platform, API integration, data pipelines, and automation, enabling seamless communication between internal and external applications.
The successful candidate will work within DevOps team and collaborate with architects, test and business stakeholders to deliver secure, high-performing integration solutions aligned with organisational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain middleware solutions (e.g. APIs, pipelines, integration layers)
- Build and support integration pipelines for data and application workflows
- Develop reusable integration components and services
- Implement CI/CD pipelines for middleware and integration services
- Ensure integrations meet performance, scalability, and security requirements
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve middleware and pipeline issues
- Produce technical documentation including integration designs and runbooks
- Support deployment, release, and operational activities
- Ensure compliance with architectural standards and best practices
- Participate in code reviews and continuous improvement initiatives
Key Requirements
- Strong experience with middleware platforms (e.g. Oracle, IBM Integration or similar)
- Experience building RESTful and/or event-driven integrations
- Solid understanding of message queues, event streaming, and asynchronous processing
- Experience with API management and integration patterns, AWS API gateway
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI)
- Familiarity with containerisation and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes – desirable)
- Experience with version control systems (Git)
- Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code concepts (Terraform, CloudFormation – desirable)
- Experience with data formats and transformations (JSON, XML)
- Experience with AWS platform
- Understanding of logging, monitoring, and observability tools like Amazon CloudWatch, AWS X-Ray

Qualifications
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
- Relevant middleware or cloud certifications (desirable but not essential)
