Senior Full Stack Developer (focus on the backend)

Utrecht Area - Hybrid

For a growing technology company in the Utrecht area, we are looking for a Senior Full Stack Developer stronger with Backend to strengthen a compact, product-focused engineering team. This is a confidential search for a key replacement role within the core development team.

Company context:

The company is a scale-up with 35–40 employees, building and operating a proprietary digital platform in the advertising / media technology domain. The product processes high volumes of data and supports business-critical workflows for external clients.

Development is done fully in-house, with clear ownership of the platform and long-term technical responsibility.

The engineering setup is lean and senior:

• Development team of ~9 developers
• Supported by DevOps, Product, and Design
• Short decision lines, no heavy hierarchy

The role

You will work on the backend of a production-grade platform, focusing on stability, performance, and further development of core services. This is not a junior or heavily guided role — the company is looking for someone who can operate independently, while collaborating closely with other experienced engineers.

The emphasis is on backend seniority.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend services used in a live customer-facing platform
• Improve performance, scalability, and reliability of existing systems
• Work with APIs, data flows, and integrations with external systems
• Collaborate with frontend developers, DevOps, and Product on technical solutions
• Take ownership of backend components and contribute to technical decisions
• Support gradual improvement of code quality and architecture

Practical requirements

• At least 3+ years of experience as a Backend or Fullstack developer.
• Strong experience with Node.js or PHP as a backend developer
• Great experience with NestJS and Typescript.
• English-speaking environment, so a good level is required.
• Focus is on solid backend engineering principles rather than a fixed stack
• Must already be allowed to work in the Netherlands
• No visa sponsorship available

Working setup

• Permanent contract, full time (40h, 36h or 32h)
• Salary: up to €6,000 gross per month based on 40 hours (depende on your experience)
• Hybrid model: Preference for 3 days per week on-site, 1 day on-site per week is discussable
