Join an ambitious project to bring a brutal dark fantasy universe to life through a high-quality video game vertical slice. This role is ideal for experienced game developers passionate about translating established lore and immersive worlds into compelling gameplay. The project draws inspiration from titles like Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 and Helldivers 2, focusing on a serious, grimdark tone. You will collaborate remotely, contributing to either a short-term proof of concept or potentially a long-term partnership with royalty-based revenue sharing. The universe already has a dedicated audience, providing a strong foundation for creative and technical innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a vertical slice or concept demo using Unity 3D or Unreal Engine, ensuring high visual and gameplay quality.
  • Translate existing universe lore and narrative into engaging game mechanics and immersive environments.
  • Collaborate with the IP creator and other freelancers to align the game’s tone, style, and mechanics with the established dark fantasy vision.
  • Implement core gameplay systems, including combat, AI, and environmental interactions, suitable for a grimdark medieval setting.
  • Optimize performance and ensure technical stability across platforms.
  • Provide creative input on game design, mechanics, and user experience to enhance the overall project.
  • Participate in regular remote meetings and provide progress updates.

Skills And Requirements

  • Proven experience developing video game vertical slices, demos, or full games, preferably in the dark fantasy or grimdark genre.
  • Proficiency with Unity 3D or Unreal Engine, including asset integration, scripting, and optimization.
  • Strong understanding of game design principles, especially for action-oriented or narrative-driven games.
  • Ability to interpret and implement complex lore and world-building into gameplay elements.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a remote, freelance environment.
  • Portfolio demonstrating relevant projects, particularly those with a dark, serious tone.
  • Availability for either short-term or long-term collaboration, with openness to royalty-based revenue sharing for extended involvement.
