Junior Financial Data Scientist (AI & Process Automation) – Master’s Graduate Role

Location: London (Hybrid)

Salary: Circa £45,000 + Bonus + Benefits

Start Date: ASAP

About the role:

We are hiring a Junior Financial Data Scientist with a strong academic background in AI / machine learning to join a fast-moving investment-focused team.

This role is ideal for a recent Master’s graduate who wants to apply advanced analytics to financial datasets and build automation that improves how the business operates—reducing manual reporting, accelerating analysis, and improving data quality and consistency.

You’ll work across stakeholders in finance and technology to develop scalable workflows that turn complex financial information into actionable insight.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Building and improving data pipelines for financial datasets (transaction data, portfolio data, market data, performance metrics)
  • Automating recurring workflows such as monthly reporting, KPI packs, reconciliations, variance analysis, and model updates
  • Applying ML/statistical techniques to support forecasting, anomaly detection, risk/performance analytics, classification, and segmentation problems
  • Developing reproducible analysis in Python (pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn) and querying structured data using SQL
  • Converting unstructured inputs (PDFs, data room exports, spreadsheets) into clean, usable datasets using parsing + validation logic
  • Creating dashboards/visual outputs (e.g., Power BI/Tableau or Python visualisation) for internal decision-making
  • Producing clear written summaries and presenting findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Exploring safe, practical uses of AI/LLMs for summarisation, extraction, and first-pass narrative reporting (with controls and review)

What We’re Looking For:

  • A recently completed Master’s degree (or strong Bachelor’s with relevant experience) from a top university in Data Science, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Engineering, or similar
  • Strong programming skills in Python (e.g., pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn; matplotlib/plotly a plus)
  • Strong SQL skills and comfort working with large, messy datasets
  • Familiarity with core machine learning concepts (supervised/unsupervised learning, model evaluation, feature engineering)
  • Demonstrable experience working with financial data (portfolio, pricing, market, transaction, credit/risk, time series, or similar) through projects, dissertation work, internships, or employment
  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive, automation-first mindset
  • Full right to work in the UK (visa sponsorship not available)

Benefits:

💰 Salary: Circa £45,000 + Bonus

🏡 Hybrid Working: Flexible mix of office and remote work

📈 Career Growth: Mentorship, development plans, training budget

🛠 Modern Tech Stack: Python/SQL + analytics/AI tooling, automation opportunities

🤝 Collaborative Culture: Work closely with senior stakeholders in a high-impact role

Additional Perks: Pension scheme, private healthcare, and wellbeing initiatives

How to Apply:

Please apply with your most up-to-date CV (and ideally a brief note outlining your most relevant ML/AI project on financial data). We’ll be in touch ASAP to arrange an initial call.
