Required Skills

  1. SNMP Proficiency: Deep knowledge of SNMP protocols (v1, v2c, and especially v3), MIBs, OIDs, and trap mechanisms.
  2. Monitoring Tools Experience: Hands-on experience with network monitoring and management tools that leverage SNMP, such as Elk, Statseeker, OpenNMS, SolarWinds, Nagios, Datadog, HPOV or Wireshark.
  3. Hardware Knowledge: Proficiency in configuring and managing network hardware from various vendors (Cisco , Checkpoint, Fortinet, Alteon, etc.).

Key Responsibilities

  1. Configure and manage SNMP: Set up, configure, and maintain SNMP agents on network devices (routers, switches, firewalls, servers, etc.) to ensure they send necessary data and traps to the central monitoring system.
  2. Monitor Network Health: Continuously monitor network performance metrics such as CPU and memory usage, interface status, and temperature using SNMP data to proactively identify and resolve issues.
  3. Design and Implement Alerting: Customize thresholds and conditions that trigger SNMP traps and integrate these alerts with incident management systems for prompt response.
  4. Troubleshooting and Diagnostics: Analise SNMP data and logs to diagnose the root cause of complex network issues, performance bottlenecks, and outages, then implement corrective measures.
  5. Maintain MIBs: Keep Management Information Bases (MIBs) updated to ensure seamless communication and accurate data interpretation between devices and the SNMP manager.
  6. Documentation and Reporting: Create and maintain detailed documentation of network configurations, monitoring procedures, and incident reports. Generate regular reports on network performance and trends.
  7. Security Best Practices: Implement and enforce network security policies, including using SNMPv3 for enhanced security and configuring Access Control Lists (ACLs) to restrict access.
  8. Collaboration and Vendor Management: Work closely with other IT and Engineering teams (e.g., security, system administrators) and collaborate with third-party vendors to resolve technical issues and integrate monitoring systems.
