Required Skills
- SNMP Proficiency: Deep knowledge of SNMP protocols (v1, v2c, and especially v3), MIBs, OIDs, and trap mechanisms.
- Monitoring Tools Experience: Hands-on experience with network monitoring and management tools that leverage SNMP, such as Elk, Statseeker, OpenNMS, SolarWinds, Nagios, Datadog, HPOV or Wireshark.
- Hardware Knowledge: Proficiency in configuring and managing network hardware from various vendors (Cisco , Checkpoint, Fortinet, Alteon, etc.).
Key Responsibilities
- Configure and manage SNMP: Set up, configure, and maintain SNMP agents on network devices (routers, switches, firewalls, servers, etc.) to ensure they send necessary data and traps to the central monitoring system.
- Monitor Network Health: Continuously monitor network performance metrics such as CPU and memory usage, interface status, and temperature using SNMP data to proactively identify and resolve issues.
- Design and Implement Alerting: Customize thresholds and conditions that trigger SNMP traps and integrate these alerts with incident management systems for prompt response.
- Troubleshooting and Diagnostics: Analise SNMP data and logs to diagnose the root cause of complex network issues, performance bottlenecks, and outages, then implement corrective measures.
- Maintain MIBs: Keep Management Information Bases (MIBs) updated to ensure seamless communication and accurate data interpretation between devices and the SNMP manager.
- Documentation and Reporting: Create and maintain detailed documentation of network configurations, monitoring procedures, and incident reports. Generate regular reports on network performance and trends.
- Security Best Practices: Implement and enforce network security policies, including using SNMPv3 for enhanced security and configuring Access Control Lists (ACLs) to restrict access.
- Collaboration and Vendor Management: Work closely with other IT and Engineering teams (e.g., security, system administrators) and collaborate with third-party vendors to resolve technical issues and integrate monitoring systems.
