We're a fast-growing startup building a cutting-edge SaaS product. We're looking for a passionate and skilled Mid-Level Backend Developer proficient in PHP and Laravel to join our team. You’ll play a key role in developing and maintaining scalable backend systems, contributing to the core of our platform with both new features and maintaining our existing codebase. You'll collaborate closely with our product teams in a fast-paced, agile environment. Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, performance optimization, and a collaborative, agile mindset is essential. Powered by proprietary AI across the full guest journey, HiJiffy allows hoteliers to increase revenue from direct bookings and upselling while automating repetitive tasks to reduce operating costs and mitigate staff shortages.

Location: Remote-first, based in Portugal.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain scalable, high-performance backend systems using PHP and the Laravel framework.
- Collaborate closely with Frontend Developers, AI experts, and Partnerships to build new features and integrations.
- Design and implement clean, efficient APIs and backend services.
- Continuously identify opportunities to improve code quality, security, and system performance.
- Work with Redis and Elasticsearch to support caching and search functionality.
- Write clean, well-documented, and maintainable code that balances immediate requirements with long-term scalability.
- Actively participate in team discussions, offering feedback and improvements.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve backend issues and bugs.
- Participate fully in agile development processes (sprints, stand-ups, retrospectives).

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 3–5 years of experience in backend development.
- Proficiency with PHP and experience using the Laravel framework.
- Solid experience with MongoDB and MySQL, including optimization and performance tuning.
- Working knowledge of Redis and Elasticsearch.
- Familiarity with RESTful API design and best practices.
- Experience using Git for version control and working in a collaborative coding environment.
- Cloud platforms like AWS or Google Cloud.
- Tools like JIRA and an understanding of Agile methodologies.
- Integrations with Property Management System (PMS) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM).
- Collaborative team player; actively listens to peers, offers constructive feedback, and readily assists colleagues.
- Proactive problem-solver; identifies and suggests improvements, finds efficient solutions without over-complicating, and takes initiative.
- Strong sense of autonomy and ownership; works independently and manages time effectively, taking ownership of tasks.
- Focus and attention to detail; maintains concentration on tasks, ensuring accuracy and quality of work.
- Adaptable and resilient; thrives in a fast-paced environment and readily embraces change.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken).
