About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer, Security Observability, to join our dedicated Security team. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing and building secure, scalable systems that enhance our security observability infrastructure. Your expertise will enable us to monitor, analyze, and respond to security threats more effectively by developing robust data pipelines and security data management solutions. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Detection & Response (D&R), to reduce security risks and improve forensic investigation capabilities. This position offers flexibility for remote work or the possibility of relocation assistance to our offices in San Francisco, Seattle, or New York City.

Key responsibilities include designing scalable software systems for security observability, maintaining data pipelines that integrate security-relevant data from various sources, and continuously improving the resilience and reliability of our security data infrastructure. Your contributions will directly support our efforts in threat detection, incident response, and compliance, playing a vital role in safeguarding OpenAI’s technology and assets.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Golang, or similar.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code tools like Terraform.
  • Hands-on experience working with cloud platforms, particularly Azure.
  • Strong background in building and maintaining data pipelines for security applications.
  • Knowledge of security data management, forensic investigations, and compliance requirements.
  • Generalist engineering mindset with the ability to adapt across domains such as databases, SRE, or security.
  • Excellent collaboration skills to work effectively with security and engineering teams.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented problem-solving approach focused on enhancing security data visibility and forensic capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop scalable software systems that facilitate security observability across OpenAI’s infrastructure.
  • Build and maintain data pipelines that centralize security-relevant information from diverse sources.
  • Proactively enhance the resilience and reliability of data systems to ensure high platform availability.
  • Collaborate with Detection & Response (D&R) and other security teams to identify and mitigate security risks.
  • Contribute to data engineering efforts supporting forensic investigations and compliance initiatives.
  • Implement best practices for security data management, monitoring, and incident response.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve the security observability infrastructure to adapt to evolving threats.
