Overview / Background

This role supports the sustainment and evolution of deployed and deployable ICT capabilities that underpin the operational effectiveness, resilience, and mission assurance. These environments include secure and deployable networks, fleet and mission systems, mission partner environments, and command-and-control and collaboration platforms operating across domestic and deployed contexts. The scale and complexity of these environments require disciplined engineering, secure-by-design solutions, and close collaboration between Defence stakeholders and industry partners.

Position Brief

The Network Engineer will be embedded within Defence to provide specialist networking expertise across multiple programs and projects. The role is responsible for analysing, designing, integrating, and assuring secure communication network solutions. Working as part of multidisciplinary Defence–industry teams, the Network Engineer will support the identification and resolution of technical issues, contribute to system design activities, and ensure solutions align with operational, security, and lifecycle requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide reporting of current communication network technologies and topologies and network integration in related projects
• Lead in designing and developing requirements for networking hardware, applications and systems. Evaluate and Identify candidate solutions to meet the requirements.
• Evaluate and Identify candidate network components to meet the system lifecycle requirements.
• Coordinate design of subsystems and integration of total system.
• Identify, analyse, and resolve program support deficiencies.
• Work with vendors to assess vendor products, incorporate to the overall design and assist in implementation and technical resolution.
• Convert business and technical requirements into integrated and automated technology solutions
• Deliver system design artefacts including but not limited to High Level Designs, System Configuration, Quality Assurance Plans, Build Guides including Scripts or Playbooks and Standard Operating Procedures
• Provide Technical Assurance including Objective Quality Evidence, Training Material assessment and Judgements of Significance.
