About The Game

Hopetown is a new narrative-first RPG inspired by Disco Elysium, being built by some of the team that worked on Disco Elysium, including Martin Luiga (founder of the ZA/UM Cultural Movement, writer of several characters on Disco Elysium, writer of the first short story in the Disco Elysium world), Lenval Brown (narrator of Disco Elysium) and Piotr Sobolewski (former CEO of Knights of U, which completed all the tech for Disco Elysium).

We are currently moving into early production, building out the foundational systems, characters, and mechanics that will define the experience. With your help, we can transform Hopetown from a great cRPG into an unforgettable one — a living, breathing universe of stories, surprises, and challenges.

About Us

Longdue is a studio founded to create rich, emotional, story-first games that challenge players' expectations. We're a remote team of writers, artists, designers, and engineers, bringing together talent from across the industry to push the boundaries of narrative-driven RPGs.

We are still early in production, meaning new team members will have a real, tangible impact on the world we are building. We believe that extraordinary games can come from small, focused teams that value creativity, openness, and care over convention.

About The Role

We're looking for an RPG Game Designer to help shape the moment-to-moment player experience in Hopetown, working at the intersection of systems, quests, and narrative. You'll design gameplay content that supports story, character, and theme, ensuring that mechanics and player choice feel meaningful, grounded, and emotionally resonant.

This is a hands-on design role for someone who enjoys taking ownership of gameplay areas and seeing them through from concept to implementation and polish. You'll work closely with narrative, art, and engineering to design quests, interactions, and systems that feel cohesive, well-paced, and true to the game's vision.

You'll help define how our RPG systems work, how players move through the world, and how gameplay reinforces narrative rather than competing with it. We're looking for someone who thinks holistically about player motivation and experience, is comfortable iterating based on feedback and playtesting, and cares deeply about craft.

This role is ideal for a designer who loves RPGs not just for their mechanics, but for how mechanics, story, and player psychology come together to create something memorable.

Add to What You'll Be Doing:

  • Design and implement narrative and gameplay content for assigned areas of the game, taking ownership from concept through to final in-game quality
  • Craft and maintain coherent, well-paced narrative flow across quests, dialogue, characters, and environments
  • Collaborate closely with design, art, and tech to ensure narrative elements integrate smoothly with gameplay systems
  • Identify narrative or quest design challenges and propose thoughtful, player-focused solutions that support the overall vision of the game
  • Regularly review progress on your areas, gather feedback from other disciplines, and iterate toward the strongest possible outcome
  • Write, maintain, and clearly communicate narrative and design documentation to support shared understanding across the team
  • Analyse player motivations, emotional responses, and expectations, using playtesting and feedback to inform narrative and design decisions

Requirements

MUST-HAVE REQUIREMENTS

  • Proven ability to take ownership of a creative area of a game, driving it from early ideas through implementation and polish.
  • Strong cross-disciplinary communication skills, with the ability to gather feedback, synthesise it, and act on it constructively.
  • A pragmatic, problem-solving mindset: able to generate creative solutions when needed, while recognising when simple or established approaches are the right choice.
  • Experience contributing to shipped or in-progress games, with at least 2+ years of hands-on testing, iteration, or content implementation.
  • A solid understanding of narrative structure, pacing, tone, and emotional beats in interactive storytelling.
  • Ability to observe player behaviour, extract meaningful insights, and filter feedback without losing sight of the game's narrative goals.
  • Comfort working with modern development tools and pipelines, and a willingness to adapt to new workflows (we use Unity, YouTrack, Articy, and Git).

NICE TO HAVE

  • A strong passion for narrative-driven games, particularly RPGs and dialogue-heavy experiences.
  • Deep familiarity with RPGs as both a player and a creator, with an interest in how narrative, mechanics, and player choice intersect.
  • Experience with narrative design tools such as Articy, Ink, or similar systems.
  • An interest in psychologically rich, character-driven, or experimental storytelling.
