We are delighted to be partnering with a leading Irish wealth management firm to appoint an experienced Java Developer to join their growing Information Systems team. This is an excellent opportunity to work on business-critical platforms within a highly regulated, technology-driven financial services environment.
The Role
As a Java Developer, you will play a key role in the design, development, and delivery of scalable, secure, and high-performance applications. You will collaborate closely with business stakeholders, vendors, and cross-functional technology teams, contributing to both day-to-day delivery and longer-term technical strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deliver high-quality Java-based applications in line with functional and non-functional requirements.
- Work collaboratively with business stakeholders, third-party vendors, and internal technology teams to deliver robust solutions.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of microservices-based architectures.
- Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services.
- Ensure solutions are secure, maintainable, and aligned with industry best practices.
- Participate in code reviews, testing activities, and quality assurance processes.
- Produce and maintain clear technical documentation, including design specifications and standards.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the development team and broader IT function.
- Support and mentor junior developers, where appropriate.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years’ professional experience in Java / J2EE development.
- Strong experience within the Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring MVC; exposure to Spring Batch or Integration is beneficial).
- Proven experience developing RESTful APIs.
- Experience working with SQL and relational databases (e.g. Oracle, MySQL).
- Familiarity with build tools such as Maven or Gradle.
- Experience using Git for source control and modern IDEs (IntelliJ, VS Code).
- Working knowledge of Linux environments.
- Experience delivering solutions within a recognised SDLC (Agile or Waterfall).
- Awareness of web application security principles and secure coding practices.
- Exposure to web analytics and best-practice integration is advantageous.
