Data Scientist - €50,000 - €80,000 plus bonus - Rome, Italy (hybrid)

An established boutique consultancy is seeking a Data Scientist to join its growing team. The firm applies advanced microeconomic theory and data-driven analysis to complex real-world challenges across competition policy, litigation, and regulation. Working with leading regulators, law firms, and private sector clients across Europe, the consultancy is known for combining theoretical rigour with robust empirical evidence and is now looking to strengthen and modernise its internal analytical workflows.

Role

This is a hybrid role combining workflow development, hands-on analysis, and internal capability building. The successful candidate will help improve the efficiency and accuracy of data analysis processes, introduce best practices around reproducibility, documentation, and modular coding, and train and support applied economists in modern tools and approaches.

Alongside this, the role involves direct contribution to client projects, including applied microeconomic analysis, damages estimation, and policy evaluation. The position offers a genuine opportunity to shape standards and best practice across a specialist consultancy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review, refine, and enhance internal data analysis protocols, primarily using Python and Stata
  • Design and implement reproducible, readable, and scalable analytical workflows
  • Translate economic and analytical requirements into modular, well-documented code
  • Introduce and embed best practices around version control, testing, formatting, and documentation
  • Train and support applied economists in Python and modern data science tooling
  • Contribute directly to client work, including data cleaning, modelling, damages estimation, and policy evaluation
  • Support peer review, replication, and quality-assurance processes, including AI-assisted workflows
  • Produce high-quality, client-ready tables, figures, and analytical outputs

Key Skills

  • PhD (or near completion) in data science, computer science, statistics, econometrics, applied mathematics, or a closely related field or equivalent professional experience in data science
  • Strong programming skills in Python and Stata
  • Experience designing and automating analytical workflows
  • Familiarity with reproducibility, modular coding, and human-readable analysis
  • Exposure to AI-enabled tools, automation, and prompt engineering
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders
  • Professional working proficiency in English and Italian

Benefits

  • Opportunity to shape data practices and analytical standards across a specialist consultancy
  • Exposure to high-profile economic, regulatory, and litigation projects
  • A collaborative, intellectually rigorous environment with direct impact on how the firm operates
  • Hybrid working model
  • Competitive compensation aligned with experience and expertise

This role offers a rare opportunity for a technically strong data scientist to influence not only project outcomes but also how a consultancy thinks about, structures, and delivers data-driven economic analysis. Candidates who enjoy combining hands-on work with mentoring, process design, and innovation will find this position particularly rewarding.
