Platform Engineer

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for providing systems integration services and technical solutions in support of projects relating to server hardware, operating systems, client devices, directories, storage and data protection and recovery. This position also provides advice and other appropriate services to maintain the application of technology in support of business requirements.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Confers with other IT professionals to design system components and to obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements and interfaces

Utilizes standard engineering practices for all hardware and software configurations and change orders

Drives the adoption of new platform technologies and approaches

Implements infrastructure and other server-based technologies, depending on the needs of the platform and other critical product initiatives

Designs, builds and manages all server and SAN technologies for CCAD

Implements system monitoring and backup software to automate management processes

Implements security software and processes to ensure best practice and regulatory requirements are maintained at the highest level

Performs 24 x 7 on-call duties as necessary

Works with product owners, architects and other engineers to analyze, estimate and validate requested infrastructure features

Analyzes information to determine, recommend and plan computer specifications and layouts

Works with vendors to keep abreast of product roadmaps and new technologies

Identifies, drives and implements engineering process improvements

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience, is required

Experience

Level I

• Minimum of two to four (2-4) years experience with server or SAN technology, or relevant technologies, and with implementing, administering and supporting IT production and support systems
• Knowledge of operating system management and hardware design
• Familiarity with SAN architectures and distributed computing environments
• Understanding of system administration, configuration, troubleshooting, performance tuning, preventative maintenance and security procedures

Level II

• Minimum of four to six (4-6) years experience with server or SAN technology, or relevant technologies, and with implementing, administering and supporting IT production and support systems

• Demonstrated ability to manage operating systems and design hardware

• Experience with SAN architectures and distributed computing environments

• Experience with system administration, configuration, troubleshooting, performance tuning, preventative maintenance and security procedures

Level III

• Minimum six to eight (6-8) years experience with server or SAN technology, or relevant technologies, and with implementing, administering and supporting IT production and support systems
• Demonstrated mastery of operating system management and hardware design
• Experience with SAN architectures and distributed computing environments
• Expertise in system administration, configuration, troubleshooting, performance tuning, preventative maintenance and security procedures

Certification and Licensure

• Certification in Microsoft (MCSE), Novell (MCNE or CDE), Citrix (CCEA) or Cisco (CCDP, CCNP, CCSP, CCIP or CCIE) is required
• HP-ASE certification is preferred
• Microsoft and UNIX certifications are preferred

Job Specific Skills and Abilities

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Ability to speak and write in English is required

Ability to speak and write in Arabic is preferred

Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
